Do you know if theirs any furry magical girl shows/comics out there?
Hmmm, i agree with what you said precure will have chance to have more boycures in the future but i wonder if they gonna finally make seasons with ““unconventional”” (loose term) themes and motifs… (science, robots, games, dinosaurs, etc)
A lot of what you’ve described is something they do not in full theming but in some of the interests of characters. It was intentional that Nagisa and Honoka had interests typically associated with boys - sports and science. Yayoi loved robots and hero shows. Going so far as to incorporate them into full motifs is a little more difficult because that’s when you’re getting into the toy side of things and where Bandai has a say in the series. I don’t think they’ll be taking that kind of risk any time soon, especially considering they have to worry about their competition in the girls toy market.
are you on Hive Social? since cohost is shutting down, people are now make accounts there. Just a option if you're interested.
do you know the name of that magical boy manga on Jump? I'm curious if you know.
has anyone every said to you that you're too old to like magical girls? how would you deal with that? be it parents, friends, students or other teachers ect (although i think it's great your students don't mind it because i feel like anywhere else it would be made fun of so maybe it's completely different in japan?)
It’s only so much as any other country has a bit of a stigma against adults who enjoy cartoons. It can be embarrassing enough that I don’t tell most of my adult students what I like to watch, but with kids it’s a regular part of the lesson to discuss what we like, so they usually find out (also I have a PreCure phone case)… kids never really directly call me too old, but a negative reaction might be more because the kids in question don’t like PreCure. They sometimes wonder how it could be amusing to an adult.
One thing with adults I’ve noticed is most of the time, people expect you to only like the magical girls you were alive for. When I talk to people older than me about series from the 60s-80s, they get very excited and shocked that I even know those series exist. And that kinda matches what I know to be true with everyday people who don’t usually watch animation outside of childhood: most of them only saw a handful of magical girls and then grew out of cartoons generally. This includes PreCure.
idk why but whenever i want to speak in conversations around mg stuff, but you come off very intimidating, as if i say something wrong and will her blasted for it, im sorry if this comes off wrong but how do i say something without i guess making you angry
Don’t worry Anon. You’re not the first person to tell me that. It’s so hard to read tone on the internet. (Like literally, no one I’ve ever known irl has said this about me. It’s only online.)
I love talking about magical girls. That’s why I have a podcast with close to 200 episodes (over 200 if you include the bonus material) and I’m honestly just here for the good vibes and silly times.
When I am expressing frustration on the internet, it’s because of seeing repeated misinformation. Sometimes it’s a newer event that is misinterpreted or mistranslated en masse, sometimes it’s an unfounded rumor that refuses to die no matter how many times I try to debunk it. Either way, it’s frustration at situations rather than being angry at specific individuals, unless there is a very specific source for a certain bit of misinformation. (Usually it’s certain YouTubers lol) I know most people don’t know these things are wrong and it can’t be helped to a certain degree. But when you’ve been chasing a fake rumor for over a decade in certain cases, it can be draining.
If you’re coming at me honestly I am always happy to talk! I love sharing my thoughts and answering questions and hearing how others are enjoying magical girl series!
What are the dishes you can't enjoy despite everyone like em?
If precure aint gay enough to get reaction from homophobic parents, what were their reactions from the Mirai Liko kiss manga page?
Most PreCure kids don’t read the comics, because Nakayosi is for elementary schoolers, usually up to 6th graders, while the tv series is for preschoolers and kindergartners. So most parents aren’t buying the comics for them even if they know they exist because they simply can’t read them yet. And even for older kids, idk about you but my parents were not looking over everything I read as a kid that deeply.
The kiss in the comic is a trope that happens in a lot of series - iirc it also happened in Tokyo Mew Mew Au Lait - where one character is poisoned and they have to give them the antidote that way. So there’s plausible deniability to hide behind. The Kamikitas know what they’re doing… but we also haven’t gotten anything closer to queerness than that and the Akiyuka rings from the comics and that was almost a decade ago.
Even today the GL levels in Nakayosi are soooo so rare and need plausible deniability to get away with it.
Have you ever done a theater play before? or attend to see a play?
with how gay precure is, have there really been no complaints from homophobic parents? not just about a lot of the girls' closeness, but more obvious couples like yukari and akira as well
Do ya have early memories of owning magical girl items? (it can be either official or bootlegs)
Any songs you like to play to accompany you working?
Have you ever went to pop up cafes before?
Is there a reason why Yes 5 and Smile have similar elements and concepts between them?
I think they are both coincidentally heartening back to classic MG tropes for different reasons, more than having similar elements that are significantly different from the rest of the franchise. Having the same character designer helps people naturally think of them as being more connected.
I love funny animated kids shows where adults can laugh at them like precure, do you know any other show like that? I heard about doremi a lot👀
Doremi is good but the fansubs are very… of the time 😭 so be wary of any ableist slurs I swear they’re not really being used
Onegai My Melody is also very silly, as well as Mewkledreamy. Outside of magical girls there’s also Himitsu no Cocotama and Pui Pui Molcar… that’s all off the top of my head.
