If you could make seventeen film any music video concept of your choice, what would it be?
I'd love to see them do something more theatrical again....I'm thinking about that performance of Home Run on some American late night show where the video starts off with them getting ready backstage/as crew members and follows them backstage until eventually they're performing on stage etc, or that one music show performance with a really extended intro of everyone dancing through "getting ready"...something like that, but more musical theater would be super fun. Honestly if they just kept expanding on the Home Run mv concept forever I would not complain one bit
i want greek gods for bts members too! :>
Hello hello sorry it took me a week to get to this!!! Same disclaimers as when I did this for svt apply, they could all be children of Apollo bc they are singers who sing performers who perform etc etc
Namjoon-Ok so like. Obvious answer is Athena right but I also think it's the right one!!!! Not only in that Namjoon loves learning and loves to read which is true, but also in the sense of he is SO introspective and always pushing himself to be better. Also leaderisms inherently involve strategy/wisdom.
Seokjin-Okay again, there is an obvious answer here and it's Aphrodite. which I can definitely see, like not only does he have That Face he is aware of that and can draw attention to himself (to take attention off others, even) when necessary. I can also see Poseidon for him for....honestly no particular reason, just vibes. This one is kind of hard for me because even though he is my bias and I love him a lot of what I see as his core traits don't map neatly onto one god or another? Not to turn this entirely unrelated retrospring ask into Jin meta but being empathetic, observant, willing to draw attention to oneself to make the burden on others easier, his hobbies etc--all aren't reaally traits that map onto one god or another. I suppose Athena could also work for the same reasons I listed for Jeonghan but while I do think the Jin-Jeonghan venn diagram has plenty of overlap I don't quite think the way their similarities manifest in Jin are as Athena-like as they are in Jeonghan.
Yoongi-I'm sure there are a lot of Yoongi-as-Nico fics out there and you know I'm not opposed to that but I think the most clear answer to me is Apollo. Like, Yoongi literally once said he wants to ask music why it chose him. He eats sleeps breathes music it is his method of communication with the world it is how he processes things. His first love was a PIANO. He is a child of Apollo. (Can u tell I have a lot of Yoongi feelings. Yoongi I miss you).
Hoseok- Literally the sun....so Apollo feels right!! I also think Hobi's dedication to his craft is also quite suitable for Apollo like he IS dance yk
Jimin-Aphrodite, mostly just because like....I feel like Jimin is love embodied, you know? Like yes he is gorgeous/the it boy etc but beyond that I think the love aspect of Aphrodite, not necessarily in the sense of romantic love, is very Jimin
Taehyung-Ack ok I'm gonna admit I have the shakiest grasp on Taehyung characterization-wise so this could be super super off base....I can see Aphrodite for him as well, for some reason I can also see Hermes?? Again like with Jin a lot of what I see as core "Taehyung" traits don't necessarily map onto a given god....I suppose on vibes alone he could be a child of Zeus/Poseidon/Hades but agh....armys plz sound off in the replies...
Jungkook-Okay I'm gonna throw out a hot take and say Hermes? Like of course the fact that he is good at literally everything encompasses artistic talent, so Apollo would fit, but Hermes is the jack-of-all-trades, and that's fitting for Jungkook to me. Whatever he puts his mind to he can pull off!! I also think Jungkook has the main character energy to be a son of Poseidon or Zeus
Since you love pjo, Who are the greek god parents for each members?
Ok a lot of these are just vibes so please feel free to disagree with me in replies or whatever lol. Also disclaimer that a lot of these are going to be Apollo for....obvious reasons....and also that really they could all be coded as children of Apollo because singers who sing performers who perform etc.
Seungcheol-Instinctive answer is Nike, because you know. Competitive guy, goddess of victory....I can also see Zeus or Poseidon for him, something commanding/dramatic yk
Jeonghan-Athena or Hermes but I'm leaning Hermes. I think Hermes fits better with Jeonghan being like..."crafty"? Like obviously he's very smart but I would categorize it more as being intuitive/good with people rather than purely book smarts, which COULD be Athena as well but idk I'm thinking about in the pjo books how kids of Hermes always have this kind of mischievous/sly look in their eyes
Joshua-Aphrodite or Athena, the former is just vibes and the latter because Joshua strikes me as a very crafty person...the bracelets, the pottery (? that was a thing right) etc so. Goddess and patron of artisans/handicrafts.
Jun-Apollo. Look at BETS Jun performing Wave and tell me that's not a son of the sun god.
Hoshi-Apollo! I could see a lot of other options for him but Apollo makes the most sense to me
Wonwoo-Athena all the waaay. I don't even think I need to explain this one really.
Woozi-This is a son of Apollo. Maybe he even IS Apollo. Literally god of music, Seungcheol said it himself end of discussion.
DK-Ok so the obvious answer is Apollo but I'm actually leaning Dionysus because in addition to being the god of wine Dionysus is the god of theater and I think in a group of theater kids DK is perhaps the most theater kid of all!
Mingyu-Mingyu has such massive main character energy that I feel like being a son of Zeus would be appropriate lol. It's funny because in terms of personality/hobbies I feel like Mingyu is kind of suited to being like, idk a son of Hera or Hestia or something but that is obviously...not possible at least in the versions of the myths told by pjo sooooo maybe Demeter? I think Mingyu is obviously very athletic etc but I think in terms of personality he's quite nurturing so....
Minghao-I'm thinking Athena! I don't think I'm enough of a Minghao Scholar (TM) to explain this one fully but I think beyond the whole visual art thing (analogue for weaving/tapestries in my head) there's also like...this element of temperament? Or like, Minghao's approach to life that feels very Athena, or more accurately feels very PJO Annabeth.
Seungkwan-I have a hard time picturing Seungkwan not performing in some way? so again easy answer is Apollo, but I can also see Athena for him for some reason
Vernon-Ok this one gave me a lot of trouble....Apollo is as always the easy answer but for some reason I want to say Hypnos or Morpheus??
Dino-APOLLO. Dancer who dances!!!! Consummate performer!!! I could also see Dionysus purely on the basis of yk. #SendDinoToCannes. But I'm saying Apollo.
(This was way harder than I thought djl;aksl;dsa)
Are there any svt ships you personally don't get the appeal of?
This is going to sound like a copout answer but even the ships I'm not as into I "get" the appeal even if it's not necessarily for me? Like even the ships i don't reach for as much, it's more "okay i get it but not something i will go for instinctively" or being a dynamic I'm not as into...like for example I don't tend to seek out ships with woozi in them for whatever reason but I understand WHY people go nuts for jigyu or soonhoon or whatever and sometimes I see the clips and go damn what's going on over there!! And I have read fics for both those ships that I've enjoyed, they're just not ships that I actively think about a lot or seek out content for necessarily.
From your fics, I get the impression that you're someone with a wide range of interests outside of kpop, which then gets brought into your kpop fic for some nice color. :)
this is 1000% true and in fact will only become more true as i keep posting fics i'm working on (ie: current wip is a final fantasy au, at some point i will hopefully post an ace attorney au, etc)
honestly your fic makes me assume you are a really nice and friendly person irl ❤️
Aaaaaa well I’d like to think that I am!
who is your favorite person to write about and why?
The easy, bias-goggles answer is Joshua, because I love him, but I also find it difficult to characterize him sometimes? So writing him is half "ugh I love him" and half "okay but is this right???? WOULD HE SAY THAT????"
I think overall I most enjoy writing Seungcheol? This might be recency bias given that I wrote a 50k fic about him lol but he is also in my bias line and I find him a lot more straightforward to capture, and plus I am a sucker always for a paladin-type character and Seungcheol slots very easily into that imo. To me he's pretty straightforward and I relate to him a lot, so that makes it easier on me as a writer as well.
I'm late but what are your fave d20 characters! PCs but also NPCs if you have any
ahhh ok this is an outdated list because I haven't been caught up on d20 since....um....TUC S2....lol....but!!! I think all-time fave PC is Riz that is my little guy and I love him so much....I also love Kingston + Sofie from TUC and Theo from ACOC. In terms of NPCs...I mean I can't not say Jawbone!! Though in general I think the NPCs in Fantasy High are really really strong...ditto for ACOC, such a richly fleshed out world/cast!
What's your favorite fic trope to read or write?
Ok you asked for favorite singular but I can't pick so I'm just gonna list off a bunch lol
I'm going to answer writing first because it's a shorter list haha. As you can probably tell by the fact that I have tagged I think almost every fic I've written with "pining" I love writing pining....I also really enjoy ensemble antics + writing humor...also texting (kinda want to write an epistolary au one day...) I don't know if those "count" as tropes but they are elements i enjoy incorporating in my work!
In terms of reading (unfurls scroll) I love what I'll call "specific industry aus" where the story is set in a specific industry and there's a good amount of detail about that industry! Whether that be idk politics or acting or sports etc. I guess really I love strong worldbuilding in general, because I'm also a sucker for a sci fi or fantasy au as well.
I also really enjoy mysteries/casefic altho that is rare in this specific fandom and honestly kind of rare even in fandoms more suited to it (ie ace attorney). POV outsider is something I also really enjoy especially if combined with incorporation of social media into a fic.....and in terms of romantic tropes I think my absolute favorite is what I've heard called "A fell first B fell harder" which to me is basically, character A has been aware of their feelings the whole time and has resigned themselves to quietly pining forever while character B is also in love but doesn't know it until they have a big dramatic realization and proceeds to act on said realization immediately. As you can imagine I also really enjoy friends to lovers!
Are you into any non-kpop fandoms?
I am into. So many non-kpop fandoms lol let me see if I can list them all....
Okay in general I love a lot of anime/manga, so FMA: Brotherhood, Mob Psycho 100, Haikyuu, One Piece, etc are all faves I engage with to varying degrees although for the first two I don't read a tooon of fic mostly because FMA is not like. A super hopping fic fandom in the year 2023, and a lot of Mob Psycho fic is not to my personal taste.
I'm also a massive gamer!! Most of the games I play don't really have super active fandoms/have pretty small fandoms I more engage with passively on tumblr tho lol. Ace Attorney is the franchise I have the most actual fandom engagement with in that I follow a lot of aa accounts on tumblr + have read a lot of fic etc....I love Final Fantasy (specifically 6, 8, and 9) a lot but those don't have super active fandoms on sites I use because uh. All those games came out before I was born haha. Recently I got super into the Trails series which has a very small fandom I can't even engage with because I'm not caught up haha...if anyone wants me to pitch them on a very long video game series with an interconnected world please hmu....
Finally in terms of book fandoms I am a PJO girl forever and ever...it was my first fandom and I'm not necessarily super "active" in it these days...similar to Ace Attorney I follow a lot of pjo blogs on tumblr and such, and I'm sure when the show comes out I'm going to be plunged back into obsession! I also love the Cosmere a lot altho I find it hard to engage with the fandom because people are super into like, the Lore and Magic Systems and I am much more interested in character/plot stuff and the vibes so.....
Anyways I probably forgot something but that's everything that comes to mind rn! I think kpop fandom is definitely the most "active" I've been in a fandom, like having genuine friendships rather than acquaintanceship, actually posting instead of reblogging etc so my relationship to other fandoms I'm in is quite different
What have you been watching and/or reading lately?
In terms of watching, I started rewatching Haikyuu yesterday and I am soooo transfixed. It's so good how did I forget! I'm also watching New Girl, very slowly, and I got 6 episodes into The Bear but have yet to finish season 1 for....reasons.....
In terms of what I'm reading, right now I'm very slowly picking away at Let the Record Show by Sarah Schulman which is a history of ACT UP and AIDS activism in the US in the 80s and 90s. It's a pretty dense book but a topic I'm really interested in for a variety of reasons so I'm excited to keep going.
I'm also "reading" Umineko: When They Cry. I say "reading" in quotes because it's a visual novel, not a book, but pretty much the same as a book in the end given that I'm sitting down to read a lot of dialogue and narrative description. Umineko is soooooo long and I'm only on arc 4 of 8 but I'm reaaallly liking it--I think the author is really good at depicting complicated, fucked up people and even more complicated, fucked up family dynamics. Also, I love a mystery always.
Finally I'm reading the manga Blue Period and I am loooving it. I think as a "creator" I resonate with a lot of the thematic content even if I make written rather than visual art. I also really appreciate it because I am...not really an art person? Like, I've always felt I don't "get" art, but reading this manga is helping me understand it better/showing me that maybe I do "get" art, actually.
What made you a fan of Seventeen?
cw // brief mention of COVID
oooh so this is a bit of a winding road actually! I first got into kpop in 2018 as a very casual fan thanks to a YouTube playlist my friend showed me and there were some Seventeen songs on there (Aju Nice and Oh My! iirc) that I really enjoyed, but I never dove into them beyond that. I remember when Home, Hit, and Fear came out that I enjoyed all those songs but I think at the time I was overwhelmed enough with getting into BTS and also I was like 13 is too many how am I ever going to know all of them (which....lol. Look at me now!).
But anyway I tried to get into them in 2020 but for whatever reason (maybe the wrong song recs?) I never took the plunge. AND THEN my friend shared a powerpoint she made to try to get her friend into Seventeen in 2020 when they were on I-Land. It took me a while to get around to actually clicking through it but then my friend got COVID and I was like you know what. By the time you get out of quarantine I will be Carat.
And sure enough! I watched the Rock with You music video and a single episode of GoSe (the mafia episode where Hoshi admits to being the mafia but they eliminate Mingyu anyway) and I was hooked. I think ultimately I just needed a good starting point music-wise and their variety content helped a LOT...I think one of my favorite things about SVT and what made me a real fan of them is how funny they are/their propensity to be at least a little bit of an improv comedy group at all times. Of course the choreo is excellent and their music is really really good but having that initial investment from their personalities went a long way I think. Once I had that I had the motivation to listen to their music and really fall in love with their discography which for me is a must in terms of getting invested in a group.
