☠️ ‼️‼️‼️‼️ i luv hearing ppl talk abt things they are passionate about

like half an info dump half just a fun fact bc i dont know what to dump ab . but!!! cherries are the same family as coffee - theyre both drupes (stone fruits) . stuff like coconuts, olives and peaches are also in this category!!!!! when u think of cherries you probably think they're closer to other fruits or berries which is only like half true? the boundary between drupes and berries is verrryyy thin esp considering the definition of berry varies depending on botanical or not . and cherries r technically still fruits! bramble fruits like blackberries and raspberries which u might associate closer to cherries are also kind of close! theyre aggregates of drupelets (which is berries usually!) which means its composed of several small drupes put together - each individual is a drupelet and together theyre an aggregate fruit :3 drupes in general are fleshy fruits surrounding a hard shell (stone) with a seed inside - they can be freestone (the stone can be easily removed bc its not attached to the flesh! cherries used for pies goes here), clingstone (the flesh and stone are fused and cannot be easily removed! these are table fruits and jams usually), or tryma (nut-like and hard to categorize... walnuts goes here! they're drupaceous [almost drupes but not quite] nuts or drupes which means they rnt technically botanical nuts). avocados are also one of the fruits that can either be considered drupes or berries and it varies :3
