What even is the purpose of marriage outside of securing political relationships between nobles? Outside of that antiquated stuff that died out when monarchies went extinct, it seems a little bit useless, other than that both parties can assume power over the other when one is incapacitated in some way, or obtain money/assets upon the death of the other (life insurance). But for obvious reasons, those things can very easily be a curse and not a benefit.

Most if not all the "financial benefits" people hype up seem to only exist if there is a large disparity in wealth between both parties involved.
Actually, in the military, you can get money for being married, so I guess that's the only way marriage is a direct financial upgrade as far as I know.
