Call me entitled, it’s fair enough, but i have such a DEEP hatred for fanfic authors who don’t fucking just tag the dynamics of the ship they write. maybe it’s bc i’ve been in fandom in almost 20 years but seeing the shift in fandom etiquette in this area is so aggravating. especially bc it’s often born out of people wanting to be “woke”, “oooh it’s so awful to say who tops and bottoms, stop being so heteronormative!” as if actual gay couples don’t OFTEN have specific sexual dynamics they like and don’t stray from, lmao. and even if that wasn’t the case despite it being true, ITS FICTION!!!! Character A and character B aren’t gonna jump out the letters on screen and beat you up by doing appropriate tagging who tops and bottoms!!!
man i miss the days where western fandoms actually tagged shit more on average. those were the times. so much less conflict on average because we were all SO MUCH LESS likely to stumble across dynamics we hated. now it’s unavoidable in many cases. And then there’s all the dumbasses who tag shit wrong! Or even use ALL the ship names for the ship, even ones for the opposite dynamic of what they write or drew, DESPITE them clearly having a specific dynamic in mind in their own fic/art. So now people who likes the opposite one from them can’t even avoid their shit bc THEY TAGGED IT WRONG TO GET EXPOSURE. god this shit is aggravating. and then u are an asshole for getting annoyed even tho they are the ones that don’t follow common fandom etiquette.
as much as i have some critiques of the japanese side of fandoms at times, they at least tag their shit right. they adhere to that shit strictly. why did we stop……
sorry this rant is over, i just needed to get it off my chest. i know u technically like switch and both dynamics in for example gego/goge but i hope u get what i’m saying still
i absolutely get what you’re saying and it really is mostly an issue in the western fandom. i don’t think ive seen fandom etiquette being ignored to this extend in asian fandoms ever. the people getting mad about criticism like this are probably the ones who think they’re superior for having no preference, as if liking switch isn’t a preference in itself
