I am so lazy I haven't even put on a pfp on my retrospeing wtf😭 part of the easy is that it had no app to keep reminding me. Anyway, whats your take on Verlaine and his reasoning to make the events of SB happen? Ted talk begins in...3...2...1!

P.S. me going to recheck and fix typos but i know they'll win reagrdless🤡

damn, we're jumping right in, SO there are two parts to this:

1). If you mean the events of trying to kill every single person Chuuya cared about to get Chuuya to leave the mafia, I think that was a horrible plan bc no one in the history of time has successfully been like "Hey lil buddy, I'm gonna kill all your friends. that'll make you like and trust me," BUT...
2). Narratively speaking, I think Verlaine's--albeit poorly expressed--care for Chuuya (as well as Rimbaud) is such a wonderful, human thing. Verlaine's NOT human; he does horrible, monstrous things, but his core motivations are complicated, conflicting, and nuanced in a way that is. He's the product of bitterness and isolation, hating humanity but craving connection. It culminates in such a fascinating character.

TLDR; I think Verlaine is super interesting and cool, and he should've gotten to raise Chuuya on a farm... (also, he served cunt).
