the slow burn is definitely burning!! I loved the latest noh update so so much 🫶 I can’t wait to read more jk and jimin interactions (jimin is the sweetest bean 🥺) I am curious about your writing process with swellow how do you both go about a writing together? /I’m sorry if this has been asked or answered before/

🔥🔥🔥 thank you! we're having so much fun writing jimin (and jk's extremely dramatic internal reactions to him!) i don't think i've ever gotten a question here abt how we write together, so i'm happy to talk abt it! i asked swellow for her perspective too, so i'm gonna copy what she had to say in here later.

when it comes to plotting, we work out plot beats and general direction of scenes in discord by chatting back and forth. our process of how we actually write together evolved a little over the first few chapters as we tried things out, but since chapter 4 or so we've been setting aside 2 or 3 days a week to write together (luckily we can make this work with time zones) and we'll both be in our shared google doc at the same time. one of us will usually write about 500-800 words, give or take, then we'll switch off, and we chat back and forth in discord and comments on the google doc as we write!

i especially have a tendency to kind of get into a scene and just veer off on a conversational tangent or add in a bunch of set dressing that we hadn't discussed based on what strikes me, and luckily swellow is very accommodating to me there! but we also check in with each other fairly frequently as we're writing, especially when it comes to how characters are reacting to each other or what we want the tone of a conversation to be so we can make sure it's working for both of us. i personally find it fun to kind of like, take decisions someone else has made in a scene and then build off of them! i like how it requires me to think on my feet and be open to new directions.

and here's what swellow had to say:

Because we both have different writing styles, I try to adapt my writing to be closer to how clarz writes (for example, clarz tends to connect clauses using the present continuous tense more than I do, so I add more of that into my writing). We also edit our own writing and each other’s writing to try to blend our styles better. We both want the writing to flow well and for people to feel like they can’t tell who wrote what, although personally I often think it’s very obvious!

In terms of plot, there are some things we’ve had plotted out since like, September, and some things we make up as we go. Basically, if either of us has an idea we just say it and try to find a place that it can fit. My feeling is that we both have a pretty strong idea of where this fic is going - more than one time we’ve been talking about next steps and have typed essentially the same thing into discord at the same time, so we’re usually on the same page. On the rare occasions we aren’t, we compromise pretty well.
