I occasionally enjoy traditional omegaverse as much as the next person but subverting the trope absolutely makes it more interesting. I understand why certain dynamics are popular but omegas being constantly in nurturing roles while people in leading positions more often than not are alphas becomes dull fast and can only take you so far

i definitely agree with you here! personally, i find unusual world building in omegaverse interesting, but i tend to avoid more traditional omegaverse with plot because i feel like the more "standard" world building veers into like... turbo-charged patriarchy. obviously i'm just talking in very broad terms here, like i've written omegaverse (and i don't believe mine is perfect, i think it runs into some of these same problems!), i've enjoyed omegaverse fics as a reader, and i understand that it's a trope that a lot of people find very comforting and have a deep investment in. i'm just speaking about my personal views of it, not saying what anyone else is allowed to like or write or whatever. i kind of feel like omegaverse is a trope that was created to facilitate wet messy desperate power exchange smut, and it works very well within that context. but when the rules of that porn world get expanded beyond the confines of any particular sex scene and you have to make a functioning society out of it, for me it often begins to fray at the seams. it's easy to make a badwrong exploitative omegaverse society, less easy to make one where you're just gonna set your cute coffeeshop au or whatever, y'know. like, pasting the socialization of women onto omegas and the socialization of men onto alphas and turning it up to 11 doesn't feel good to me as a reader, so i always appreciate efforts to mix it up or re-imagine those things!
