The countries in mahoyaku have DESIGNATED COLORS??

I MEAN… yes i assume so? i can only imagine it applies in-universe as well as outside, mostly because cain and leno specifically wear coloured armbands emblazoned with their respective country’s insignia… oz wears a yellow armband also but it doesn’t have the central country insignia so i think that was more him trying to be like “yeah i’m totally a central wizard… whatever” LOL

i don’t think we’ve ever had a clear answer about it, so a lot of it is probably just for the sake of cohesive character design, but characters with sprites more often than not tend to wear the colour associated with their country (presumably) as a matter of pride: sanbaka all have purple somewhere in their colour schemes; the central wizards use A Lot of yellow — but you’ll notice so do the humans such as vincent and drummond and cock robin… the easties wear blue and the westies wear red (as do the western side characters such as liliana/gilles/zara) and the southies typically dress in earthy greenish tones. there are of course exceptions to this (figaro’s trousers MAYBE pass as green, but he’s mostly white; faust is primarily black; snow and white barely have any purple at all other than their brooches), but i think that’s more to do with the specifics of those characters and their backstories than anything else lol. i think this is a big part of why nova’s character design primarily incorporates the colour white: because he is unassociated with any country in particular… also smth smth the moon is white

on the topic of characters wearing colours associated w their country as a matter of pride, it is interesting to me that old!murr’s outfit is primarily blue as opposed to red. i suppose this likely has smth to do with old!murr having grown beyond the limitations of national pride, as he travelled the world and caused havoc wherever he went, and was more dedicated to the moon over anything else… but this is me getting off topic now lmao
