So i looked at your mentorship diagram and it made me realize how tightly everything is tied together when it comes to relations EXCEPT western wizards. Especially since we don't have old murr. That would explain why they're not very popular in fandom spaces. They are also the only ones with very strong in country relationships and really weak ones when it comes to wizards from other countries I know western wizards aren't your thing but would you have any thoughts on this?

MMM YEAH… the westies are a bit weird in this sense. i think it’s very purposeful that they’re rather isolated, because you wouldn’t think from their personalities that they’d be so secular, right? it feels like more of a northern or eastern trait, to be alone. but that’s kind of the point, at least in my opinion… if the northern wizards all had each other as fated pairs, for example, they’d have nothing to learn about or grow from, because they’re naturally inclined to only really interact with each other. even if figaro and nero are ex-northerners, what they’ve learnt living in the south and east respectively helps them grow in ways that mirror how the twins and bradley stay stagnant, and therefore inspire change

but for the western wizards, they’re already naturally inclined to engage with other people — and yet, they’re also the wizards most resistant to change, because they value their individualism above all else. it’s not so much pride the way northern and central wizards feel as it is, like… self-assurance, if that makes sense. they are themselves, and they want to stay true to who they are no matter what happens. and so they easily make friends, but they also easily let go of the connections they’ve made, because what matters most is being able to do what they want above all else. so… tldr, i think the point of them mostly only having ties to each other is like. even though western wizards are individualistic first and foremost, they are also capable of creating deep and lasting bonds with each other. because of course shylock does everything according to his own personal aesthetics, and of course murr prioritises his thirst for knowledge and his love for the calamity over all else — but despite this, they kept seeking each other out over and over again, for 1500 years. and even though rustica might someday forget chloe, the memories they made together still matter, and perhaps chloe will someday help rustica overcome the trauma he suffered through, and perhaps someday rustica will be able to help chloe learn that he’s always loved even if rustica is no longer by his side…

that sort of thing <3
