Do you think there is a meaning or metaphor to the wizards' afflictions from the great calamity?

yes i do!! i wrote abt it in more detail in another tweet (link below) but tldr ms2 hinted that the afflictions are physical manifestations of the deep metaphorical wounds on each injured wizards’ hearts, and so my opinion is that the way for them to overcome said injuries is to accept/acknowledge the cause of the damage and find ways to make peace with themselves. so for example, faust was so hurt and damaged by alec’s betrayal that he’s been having nightmares about it since— but he refuses to let anyone in to help him heal and overcome the grief it left him with, and so his injury FORCES others to see that he’s suffering by projecting his nightmares of that time outward into the real world, therefore encouraging him to talk abt and subsequently let go of the memories, or at least the pain associated with them
