WHAT is monsters in the woods even about i'm so lost on the lyrics 😭 any ideas?
LOL it’s definitely the most abstract of the 5, huh… i think an east-focus oshi would be able to answer this question better tbh, but imo it’s a song primarily about the ways eastern country laws and people treat its wizards, and the way those wizards have to shield themselves from said treatment…
A story of a girl; Finding someone just like her” = the “girl” in question is hypothetical, probably a young witch coming across another witch or wizard
“A decaying piece of fruit; Hung under the roof; Marking our nest (etc)” = feels closest symbolically to faust and the wards/curses he probably set up around the valley of storms to try and keep trespassers and anyone else who might bother him away
Don’t you love the silence?; Can’t you see it at this moment?; My heart is spilling from my hand to your hand/Yes I love your silence; I can see it at this moment; Our love is swimming from my hand to your hand” smth abt how eastern wizards instinctively understand each other and their respective need for quiet and emotional distance — fiercely loyal and protective towards each other, but it’s an unspoken affection, for better or worse
“A bunch of black hair; Pink ribbon; Tied on a rose” = going back to the assumption that the song is about a young witch, it’s possible that this is supposed to reflect what humans in the east sometimes do to wizards — that is, kill them… perhaps the girl died, or someone else died, but all that’s left of them is their hair
“You followed my path; Then unlocked the door; And that’s when you saw; A monstrous face on a body in red” = the general implication of this song is that wizards/witches are meant to be the “monsters” in question, which means that the “monster” in this verse is likely just a wizard or witch with poor self esteem… viewing themself as little more than a beast, “in red” perhaps because they’re coated in blood? i’d say this verse reminds me of shino the most
“Everything inside me is nothing but a memory” = the eastern wizards we know are strongly defined by the memories of their pasts — faust is weighed down by what alec did to him, nero weighed down by what he did to bradley. shino and heath are constantly caught up in the memories of their childhood together, as well as the difficulties of who they were before that point, and who they’ve become now… it’s hard for an eastern wizard to have a truly defined sense of “self”, i feel
that’s kinda all i have to say abt it 😭 again i’m not rly an eastie scholar so i could b misinterpreting this stuff, it’s all just personal conjecture!! i hope it helps a little tho :3
