for me it's something pretty simple: "do i want to kiss them?" it's just this simple for me, because platonic feelings aren't any lesser than romantic feelings in my opinion! it's just that i would want to do different things with the person i'm interested in.. of course when someone is in a relationship they should put that person first too but i'm not in one and i'm not interested in anyone romantically sooo.. beep beep beep
