The Smiling Friends try to make Vellum smile. Can they do it?
Vellum would be insufferable with the evil stepmother melodramatics just to send them on a quest for coffee or smth but THEY CAN DO IT
you ever see art so good you wanted to eat it?
Every day I log in, and I see yummy art mmm sip sip sip
What are your favourite things about each of your OC's? Like favourite quirks about them or a detail that only you as the creator know of, anything really!
Ooh, so Canyon and Comet have a younger/older sibling relationship. She knows a lot of about the world pre-apocalypse, so she's always sharing things with Canyon. He probably thinks Hatsune Miku was a real person thanks to her (he's a big fan).
Y R U SO COOL ASKING FOR A FRIEND

In all seriousness though, besides Michael Hampton's book on figure drawing, what other sources of info you use and how do you go about studies? Have you ever attended art school or something similar? Your level is something I see in artists that had proper education and know exactly what they're doing, you're insanely skilled!
NO YOU’RE SO COOL
LOL I did go to art school for a bit. What helped the most was relearning the fundamentals, especially the figure drawing courses. Which you don’t need to spend your life’s savings on, bc Michael Hampton’s book is almost exactly how we were taught to break down the figure. :> Pinterest is great to find reference photos, and if you’re able to find live drawing sessions in your area, even better.
I’m also very meticulous with perspective and angles when doing studies—one of my profs was so adamant about this it drove us all mad :sob: but it was THE class that made everything click for me. So instead of loosely following the reference/model, try to nail every angle 1:1. Not everyone likes learning this way, but it’s def worth trying.
Do you stick your OCs in the canon of their related works (ie Sonic and his world) or do you lean more towards your own thing?
Answered in the previous question, but to be more specific- Canyon’s story ties 06 and SA2 together, exploring Silver’s future and the ARK as a safe haven for all those 200 years. And Vellum’s story is completely separate and takes place post-SRA.
What is your process for creating OCs? Is it instantaneous idea to design to backstory? Or do you have a more thorough and researched process to it all?
Not enough brain juice to have a story idea from the get-go, so the first thing I do is design the character > give them a vague personality > find a starting point in canon that suits both of those > and then write and refine based off that.
