I am definitely not the Duck Aficionado but I do like a few ducks!! I have an innate closeness with Donald bc we are birthday buddies. Like sure Friday the 13th is more appropriate to the character but im biased!
All right… I quite enjoyed darkwing duck as a kid!! And I still do now! It’s quite charming and funny to me… i feel it still holds up! it’s very endearing to see the heart of the show be between this bitchy egotistical middle aged duck and his plucky 90s tomboy adopted daughter… oh yeah and launchpad is there i guess
Darkwing duck very much in it for the glory and is always having to grit his teeth when he has to work with ppl outside of launchpad and gosalyn… and even then he had to ease into that… lol… I like when gosalyn humbles him. I had rewatched some eps recently and their relationship is so sweet.
dwd is very moe… middle aged fruity guy in purple. It was inevitable. He’s just so funny in general. Stubborn guy…
That being said my mom had remarked my favorite character as a lad was megavolt… (thinks about it) makes sense. Hehe I really like the eps where the fearsome five show up! Dysfunctional villain teams are great!!!
I don’t have as much memories of the older ducktales cartoon (other than I probably liked webby bc ive been attached to pink girls as a lad. Still am.) but I diiiiiid watch dt17 and tbh had more misses than hits. I kinda hate the late 2010s Disney cartoon humor (very “we have gravity falls at home” feeling) lol. It felt too smug and disdainful of the source material despite all of the apparent boasting about it. Like sorry the square heads suck no amount of lol round heads jokes is going to convince me otherwise.
I stopped watching a couple episodes into season 3. It just got too annoying and oddly mean for me. Yes the ep where Donald wishes his family had a normal life was the cutoff point. Like sorry he’s the one benefiting the least from the family “adventures” lol.
i did like lena/webby a lot. It reminded me of a childhood otp i had and i bet it was a crew members childhood otp too: hotaru/chibiusa from sailor moon. With how egregious anime refs get in most dch shows it’s nice to have a more subtle sailor moon reference that wasn’t a henshin pose. It’s just very cute! A lot of popular disney toon f/f ships tend to be misses for me but I think this one is a nice indulgent sweetness to it. The plucky girl protag gets the hot goth gf with family issues! Waow.
Another thing I liked (probably due to fanworks doing the heavy lifting) was the donald/della drama. Donald was definitely the father of the triplets. If only he wasn’t sidelined so much. Im so glad the dt17 guy didn’t get the dwd reboot. The leaked pitch bible gave me so much bad vibes. I didn’t care for the back door pilot in dt17 at all!!!! Wasn’t into the new darkwing duck or the cocky teenage latina duck! Hashtag not my drake mallard hashtag not my gosalyn… and what was up with that version of negaduck? Why introduce him and proceed to do nothing with him lol… oh god he was a delight in his one appearance. He was an interesting update to the old negaduck, who I do like! Such a diva!!!! Way better than that goodie goodie drake mallard impersonator…
I don’t want seth rogen to touch dwd either. I’m cool seeing comic continuations (I have a dwd comic omnibus I really must read) but I don’t want to see any attempt at a cartoon revival lol.
dt17 guys… it wouldn’t have hurt the show to focus on the dt part before shoehorning rescue rangers and gargoyles last minute for ur Disney afternoon “cinematic universe”… lol a good chunk of this answer is me being an absolute hater. This is my condensed hating too.
I’d like to explore the comics more. I have a couple of carl barks books! The art is so nice to look at… there’s a couple books I have from don rosa I’d like to poke into eventually. I’ve heard dt17 tried to be closer to the comics than the older dt cartoon but tbh from what I’ve seen… I don’t think so lol.
The European comics look great too! They always look so cute and toony and apparently there’s a comic where Donald is a vigilante hero? And a petite alien duck loli is in love with him? So cool!! I dunno I just like seeing flagship Disney characters in unusual scenarios.
