Both Eren and Levi have a lot of healing to do before they can let their guard down. Levi has already reached a sense of peace, but he still has to work through issues that are preventing him from wanting to leave the safety of his cottage. He worries about Eren a lot. He's afraid of losing him again, and that's the main thing that's keeping him from living in Stohess among his friends.

And, as you know, Eren is having a hard time accepting his royal side. He resents it because he associates it with bad things—losing his parents, being targeted throughout the war, marking Levi when he wasn't in his right mind. In order for him to truly know peace, he has to make peace with that side of himself. It'll take some time, but having a child will help put things in perspective. And, even when Eren relaxes, he'll still always want to protect his family. It's his instincts. It's also because Levi and Sam are the most precious things in the world to him. He wants them safe, always. In short, by the end of Apricity, Eren and Levi will fully embrace their freedom and live happily with their son (as they deserve! 😭)
