₊˚⊹ — do you listen to music?
it feels odd saying that. everyone listens to music i reckon, whether they intend to or not. not to be all dramatic or whatever, but seriously, you can’t avoid it.
and i’m curious. i can’t grasp how it must feel to not listen to music intentionally, then to hear it anyway. in stores, from friends, playing in various other public unavoidable areas, finding it be the topic of many social interactions…
i don’t think i could do it. too large a world to miss out on.
i don’t get too bad of FOMO myself, but music? all of it?…—that’s different.
i think music is very important. vital—to understanding others, at least.
the way i see some others speak of it proves this—and i’m sure you’ve heard this sort of thought process before as well—, not just simply disliking music, but actually genuinely not being to understand that it’s just as important as anything they do like.
not to say all music carries equal value in the same areas. of course not. some breakcore song does not carry the same value as perhaps something classical.
but again. it’s not that it’s less valuable overall. they’re different.
both can in fact, i think, say a lot about the people who made it, and why; what the purpose was, what movement it hopes to get across. theres simply so much value to be found. so many types, all lovely to think about.
and it’s fun to listen to, obviously
isn’t that lovely, in a way? that you CAN look at it without any deeper meaning, and simply think, easily, that it’s good for its shell of purpose?
i find a lot of people have a hard time doing that with other forms of expression & artistic pieces.
“looking too deep” into simple paintings meant to look pretty—finding a painting symbolic visually stunning without “understanding the meaning”.
these ideas SERIOUSLY cause arguments.
and yet, i don’t see anyone saying these things about music. you’re free to not care about—lyrics, for example—just as well as you are to dissect them as you please.
it’s unique. brings people together, seriously.
so what kind of music do you listen to, if you do?
why don’t you listen to music, if you don’t? is there something stopping you, or is it your own active choice maybe? —
big fan of anything with complex composition or sound design
