In depth thoughts on delicious party and happiness charge ? The fandom hates them both so im curious to see if your opinions differ

heavy spoilers for both delicious party and happiness charge, obviously

happiness charge is a very fun watch, i really like the premise of there being precure all around the world and i hope thats an idea they revisit and expand on in another season eventually (preferably with a little more thought put into their costume design...), and the twist that the (original) main villain was also a former precure is very good

the heavy focus on romance couldve been cool, if not for blue (and then randomly red as well out of nowhere?) being weird about it. i get that theyre gods and they probably dont have the same idea of love and all that but theres no way they dont understand how bad it looks on them.

the other romantic subplots are all handled significantly better, especially seijis crush and megumi slowly coming to terms with liking him more than she thought, the ending especially the end card have heavy obvious implications which are nice but i wish they just committed, i dont know why they would shy away at the very last second from making the canon couple
hime thinking she has feelings for seiji but actually she was just overwhelmed with feelings because he saved her, and iona with whats his face figuring out if she cares about romance or not are both nice additions but the latter shouldve been with a more relevant character because despite this being a big part of ionas character development you couldnt pay me to remember that guys name

all 4 of the cures are very good characters and i love each of my daughters, but yuko steals every scene she has even a bit of focus in imo

i dont really care about the fights in precure all that much as i believe ive explained in the past, but i think a lot of the fights in hapcha are good, especially the visual department of the generals corrupting the area with their own theme before they start. the fights of megumi vs mirage and ionas fight where she unlocks her innocent form i remember being particularly pretty

the generals are some of my favorite group dynamic of the franchise and i wish they got a group focus episode, it was an anniversary season they couldve played around with the format a bit and let them be the protags for an episode (obviously theyd still lose in the end, though)

i really dont have anything more negative to say about hapcha, i understand why people dislike [the] subplot but hate is really overblown, it has like 1 and a half focus episodes and is just in the background for the most part

=========

for delicious party, i believe i said a lot more when i was finishing it, to summarize my feelings it does feel like a season that is playing it extremely safe and by the numbers for the sake of not risking the brand during a very volatile time

i really like the main trio, i like amane too but it never sat right with me that she gets saved from being gentlu and then just gets written out of the story until she gets added to the team. she grows into a better character but the sourness never leaves for me
their relationships with their fairies are all cute (i also wished amane had a full on mascot that she can develop alongside instead of just the parfait), pampam is probably my favorite but i loved yuis dynamic with kome kome the most (unsurprisingly i am a sucker for seeing fairies grow up alongside their cure parent)

for side characters i love rosemary and the parents i think they were all done well, takumi being sooooo focused entirely on yui is kinda detrimental to his character, 90% of his screentime is either about her or thinking rosemary is suspicious until near the end of the show, but hes fine and black pepper is cool enough even if he falls into the category of ally that is "i show up once a fight to block a single attack or hit a single attack to distract"

on takumi, the romance subplot is very weak and one of the more disappointing things about the series for me, before i started watching it i saw people hype up constantly that precure finally did a good love interest plot but it was actually just yet another one sided crush for almost the entire runtime of the show, with maybe one scene of yui POTENTIALLY returning takumis feelings. finding out that word of god states theyll get married some time in the future felt really forced and unearned, unlike say something like megumi and seiji which i could absolutely see them mutually becoming a thing post series.

the bundoru gang is an okay villain group, they all become better characters after their respective defeats imo, spiritoru is very underutilized and despite being introduced as a unique character he turns into a tool for most of the shows remaining runtime which is a big loss
narcistoru and secretorus dynamic is pretty fun, a campy villain group can always be nice but theyre unfortunately led by the most nothing antagonist ever (with a stupid hat too), his corrupted forms are cool tho ill give him that

the fights are well done, but what i mainly like about fights in precure are the unique set pieces and gimmicks the animators can use to have fun with the surroundings, my go-to example is the amusement park fight in fresh, the delicious field gimmick is antithetical to what i like from these fights but the actual choreography itself is still fine

the cook fighter major subplot thing i kinda like, i know this is one of the more polarizing parts of the show but for me i just wish it either took up less screentime, or the whole show was based on cook fighting, kinda like how soras dream is to join the azure guard in hirosky, just have the girls join the cook fighters directly, if the fighters are going to take away so much time from the girls they should at least have the connection to them besides rosemary (this would also do wonders in developing fennel more as we'd spend more time with him, it would also lessen the sameness of the fights by making the girls able to use delicious fields themselves, not requiring all of them + rosemary to be around all the time to get anything done)

despite all these negatives ive mentioned i still really liked watching it, it was very much carried by the personalities of its core cast and if you dont like them and how they play off each other you probably wont like it as there isnt much more than that, however hating it seems kinda ridiculous when at worst the show is just a little played out/by the numbers as mentioned at the start

also takumi has very pretty parents but i didnt let that impact my opinion of the show overall
