how do you work up the courage to let strangers on the internet perceive you? specifically referring to writing; I want to post fic for a fandom I love but I can't stop overthinking it
I think that being perceived is what makes us feel real, alive, like we’re part of this world. It’s easy to live our inner lives away from each other, to blend into the cosmos and isolate ourselves but that’s the fastest way to slip into despair.
It’s scary to reveal yourself to others. It’s scary to talk about the things you think about, the way you feel. But it’s what connects us. It’s what helps us feel like we’re not alone floating in space.
I chose to share my writing because I was slipping. I was two steps away from oblivion. And it’s not like I write about anything deep, it’s just stuff about love, but it’s what I think about and I wanted to know if others thought about it too.
And they do.
Every time someone reposts something I wrote I feel a little bit more seen. At some point it stops being scary and it starts being comforting.
It’s not always easy and it’s not always fun because lots of people online are driven by cruelty and shoving it onto others but the majority aren’t.
I hope you take the leap. It’s worth it.
