Soukoku... They've always been my favorite, platonic or not, they have such an interesting dynamic. It seems like they hate each other, and they kind of do, but they also care deeply for one another, and have risked their lives for each other on several occasions.
Asagiri pretty much said that the only reason that they're not canonically in a relationship is out of respect to their authors, who genuinely hated each other.
Fun facts about them because I love them so much .. :
- In one of the many pieces of official art containing the two, they are at a popular date spot in Japan. This art was also released on Valentine's Day.
- In another piece of official art, the flowers surrounding the two are - if I remember correctly - Japanese Camellias, which often symbolize strong love.
- Asagiri has stated that they are 'one soul in two bodies', and Chuuya was quite literally made to complete Dazai. (Although that is NOT all that Chuuya's character is!!!)
- Asagiri has also stated that Chuuya makes Dazai feel human, and Dazai makes Chuuya feel alive
- Chuuya was Dazai's first reason to live
