Hello! Maybe you have talked about it already but I wanted to ask you for writing tips! I have an idea I want to do but I don't know how to start -like I write something but it doesn't feel good/right overall or the development is weird or don't know how to improve the dynamic of the main pairing, stuff like that. Can you help me with a few advices? Pretty please 🥺
okay, so the first thing to remember is basically a cliche at this point, but it's also true - you can't edit an empty page. beginning stories is hard! i rarely edit extensively after finishing the first draft, but one of the things i used to edit the most when i had a bit less experience were the opening passages. i have since learned to determine how i want to open with a bit more precision, but it was definitely a learning curve, so don't be discouraged! even if you don't like your original beginning and feel that it's not quite right for the story, you can edit it after you're done with the rest of it. but if you get stuck on the beginning, the rest of the story won't get written. (and honestly, the same goes for any other part of the story - you can edit it after you're done and you can ask a friend to read it so you have a second pair of eyes/second opinion before you publish, so you know what to improve, but it has to be there on the page first.)
it's great that you have a general idea of what you want to write, but make sure that you know where you want it to end - especially when it comes to the characters' mental and emotional state. where do you want them to end up? what kind of emotional space are they moving towards? are they running from something? are they looking for something? and in the end, do they confront that need to run away? do they find what they're looking for? answering those questions can help a lot in developing your characters and their relationships with other characters. also, if you think the development is lacking, there might be many reasons for this - try to figure out what aspects of that character/plot development are not working. is the pacing too slow? too fast? are you leaving enough breathing room for the characters to react to the events and respond on an emotional level? are you making sure that your characters are not just stuck in one place emotionally for long periods of time? all of those things are factors that can contribute to the impression that there's something off with the development of the characters/plot/main pairing.
above all, though, don't get discouraged! writing is a skill that can be only learned through trying and looking at your work with a critical eye, and finding areas to improve! there are, of course, people who can help with that critical look, and finding a good beta-reader is a great way to make this process more effective, but even having a friend read through the story and share their general opinion can be helpful.

watching sh’s recent log and he’s so😔❤️he’s such a lover boy i can’ttttt😭the way he talked about hj leaving and the weather being warmer with such a loving smile on his face had me like “now what did you and that squirrel get up to before he left sh🤔” he so clearly likes hj so much its incredibly adorable i love him😔i wish i knew more of the hj that sh sees in private, because he’s clearly doing SOMETHING right for sh to be so enamoured all the time haha
i loved that whole video so much - seeing so much of him behind the scenes was such a nice little peek behind the curtain, and the fondness with which he always speaks about hongjoong is genuinely so heart-warming. and i think that hongjoong, for all his tsundere tendencies in public/in front of the cameras, is an incredibly kind, generous person that people love to be around, and they're clearly super close. look, all i'm saying is, if i was a man and another man looked at me like hongjoong looks at seonghwa, i might just swoon...

hi id! being brief about sj is so difficult! i've been writing a sj fic that i planned to be just 15k words long and it's already at 27k haha they must have some sort of curse that makes it impossible to be brief about them. i love your fics so much, i was so happy when i saw that you've been writing for atz because you wrote a lot of my favorite danmei works (i really love "burned by liars' gold" ♡). you characterize hj and sh in such a beautiful way, and i'm always looking forward to your wip wednesdays ♡

Here’s the thing, why do people assume that he lied? I mean why are ppl so quick to jump to THAT conclusion? Chances are they genuinely couldn’t see each other, it’s really that simple. They are at PFW working….they were invited there by a brand, the brand pays for their tickets and pays for their hotels. The brand chooses where they stay…that’s why Hj and Wy weren’t at the same hotel. Just bc they stayed at the same hotel doesn’t mean they had time to see each other. Ppl need to chill lol
that's exactly my point. there's a very good possibility that their schedules genuinely overlapped in such a way that they kept missing each other. that's life! thankfully, they live in the same building back in korea and work for the same company and see each other literally all the time. would a paris date be really cute? yeah! am i gonna write fic about it? you bet! but just because they wanted to meet up and then it turned out that they couldn't doesn't mean anyone is lying.

i'm very firm on the fiction part of real person fiction for a reason, yeah. and i would hope other people would engage with me in the same spirit - even if privately we have different ideas of what the members' relationships with each other look like. my default is: i don't know until they tell me themselves, and that's the place i'm coming from in my engagement with rpf. i don't know! and i'd like it to stay that way unless one of them wants to say something of their own free will!
