As Soviet troops entered the heart of Berlin, Hitler died on April 30, 1945, in his underground bunker. According to his wishes, both bodies were burned and buried. Almost immediately, however, conspiracy theories began. The Soviets initially claimed that they were unable to confirm Hitler’s death and later spread rumors that he was alive.
