hello its me narumi isao anon i am SO HAPPY youre into them too i was also feeling like ppl wouldn't be as into them but the pseudo daddy issues are STRONG
So u asked for some thoughts I'm gonna give mine to you, I'm also planning to write something for them at some point they make me ill. I love it when the loser has to feel things.
- "i'm gonna drill what isao taught me into you" how were teen narumi and isao's training sessions...teen narumi craving master's reaction to anything...has he ever flirted with the guy just to freak him out yk...anything that can make him feel he can affect him. how frustrating was it.
- bonding with kikoru over daddy issues gone wrong because he knows kikoru was more loved by isao than he ever could hope to even if the guy had no way to emote that. does he spite kikoru a little bit? does he wish to have that attention on himself? to be strong so isao doesn't lose him instead of just being his second best weapon
- number 9 psych attack. Morphing into isao's body and making now adult narumi revive the deep frustrations within himself. loser narumi you're a loser.

pls i so badly wanted to see more of his dynamic with isao and the first division as a bratty new recruit... that chapter 86 title page, with them standing beside each other with the first division logo behind them lives rent free in my head. holy size difference... and yk narumi is such a little asshole + he was an orphan who bounced thru lots of foster homes. im thinking... lack of boundaries, just a lot of—pushing to see a reaction; that's how he deals with stuff! i made myself sad thinking about how he dumps all his stuff in his room probably bc hes never had a stable home, so he just treats it as a temporary pitstop... trash and toys all mixed up together. MY maladjusted blorbo.
anyways re: their training sessions, i can totally see isao being narumi's gay awakening, and narumi being an absolute brat about it. grinding against isao during their judo fights. being incredibly embarrassed and also unabashedly horny and forward; the worst thing he can do is kick him off the defence force. and narumi's practiced at being the one to leave...
AHAHAHA you really get me re: narumi and kikoru, that scene where she tells him over comms to "show me your skills" and he has a flashback to isao saying the same thing... jesus the layers here. they should fuck while he fantasises about her dad. ahem. i think it would be neat if they'd met pre canon; isao treats them both the same way—toughen up for my approval (that im not gonna give you anyways, bc im too repressed) but i think they'd both be jealous of what the other had. kikoru bc her dad specifically takes time out on this random orphan he fished up from the streets, narumi bc kikoru has that blood connection. even if she turned out to be weak, she'd still have that; but he knows he'll be abandoned if he wasn't so talented at killing kaiju. there's this kind of loneliness to narumi. he is the strongest and he flexes that, but it's actually fragile—it's played for comedy when he gets upset over losing to hoshina and ashiro when they talk about the kaiju killing categories, but i can't help but think there's probably a deeper neurosis there. boy who wants to be the best weapon ever bc that's all he's good at :3
anon ur mind!! #9 is like the ideal whump tool and he's been so underutilised :((( badly want some narumi noncon ft #9 wearing isao's face...
