hi, i’m just a little confused! so romance isn’t permitted in the… fantasy genre? sfw romance?? i’m just curious why that wouldn’t be allowed when the trope and genre are usually intertwined… but dead dove is permitted /gen
We do not intend for the main zine to become shipping-focused, which is why we have decided to keep the main SFW zine ship-free. This refers to content that has a ship as the clear, explicit, central focus of the artwork/story. We believe there is plenty to explore within the fantasy genre outside of works focusing on romantic relationships, and we feel this was the best choice to create a zine of general content that can be enjoyed by a wide audience.
Depictions of close, non-romantic relationships are absolutely permitted and encouraged. Romantic themes, background romance, and ambiguous relationships can be discussed with the mod team on an individual basis.
For ship-focused content (SFW or NSFW), there is room to freely explore those ideas in our digital add-on zine.

Hello! The mod team has not confirmed a charity yet. We will be discussing multiple options for our donation, and charities supporting the people of these countries or general international aid, will certainly be included in consideration.

Is it okay to include NSFW pieces in our application even if we don't plan on writing nsfw for the zine itself?
It is fine to include NSFW pieces in your application, even if you have no intent to create an NSFW piece. Please tag any NSFW samples accordingly on the application.

What are the limits to the NSFW zine add on? (Is there anything off limits for it?)
Vanilla NSFW and any ships are 100% okay. Heavy gore and violence, as well as kinks and tropes are also welcome. Heavier DDDNE content, such as extreme kink, will be subject to moderator discretion, and approved on a case-by-case basis.
Tropes we will not be including in this zine are: Loli/Shota, piss/scat/vomit, and non-con/rape.

for writer apps, does the writing mod have more power in choosing? I'm worried that if I apply with ships the writing mod doesn't like they'll judge my application more unfairly :(
The writing mod does not have more power in voting. Please do not worry about applying with pieces containing ships, all applicants will be judged solely on the quality of their work, regardless of the content/ships it contains. Please rest assured that the personal preferences of mods will not be used to evaluate our applicants.

I understand that you want to judge pieces anonymously, but is it ok if one piece still has the watermark? Editing it out is a bit of a hassle, but I can manage if not
If it is not possible/too difficult to remove a watermark from your piece, it is alright to submit your piece with the watermark. Don't worry too much about it—please submit it how it is!
Wherever possible, we request that you submit versions without your info, but we recognize that this may not be possible in all cases. We will not take the identity of any applicant into consideration for judging.

Do writers need to submit never posted before works as samples? Or can we submit already posted/shared original pieces?
Already shared/posted pieces are perfectly okay to submit! We simply request that you copy the samples you would like to submit into a separate document without any identifying information, for our blind judging process.

Writing samples are allowed to contain ships and NSFW content. In your application, please tag your samples with any warnings/notices that are are appropriate.

How will writers be chosen? In the contributor app, will there be a word count, and if so, what will it be? And will we be able to add snippets of works, or will that reflect badly on an application and full finished works within the word count are better?
Writers will be evaluated and voted on based solely on the samples submitted in their applications. Samples should be between 1k-3k words, and may be excerpts of longer works or full-length fics.
We do not require a fully-finished sample, but at least one complete fic within the word count is recommended if possible. Applications will not be disqualified or disadvantaged if they do not contain completed samples. Above all, we encourage you to submit what you consider the strongest examples of your writing.
