a shitload of figure drawing and doing direct redraws/studies of porn screenshots. for the figure drawing, doing as much variety as i could was very helpful. ie, doing a class on top of sitting somewhere and drawing ppl around u on top of independent studies, both nude and clothed subjects. ive done a lot of self led studies of people interacting with each other, like, ill google 'cuddling on couch' or 'couples dancing' and collect any interesting pics, then draw em all. it is SO helpful, you learn a lot about drawing bodies in relation to each other and making action believable. making a point to draw bent limbs and foreshortened body parts, basically any pose more complicated than just standing, is also a good thing to focus on. 🫵 do NOT skip drawing that arm thats at a weird hard angle. draw it draw it NOW u will never learn if u dont do it now! you will learn the intricacies of the human body quicker this way. and, in my figure studies i tend to exaggerate the subtleties of the curves of a body. i find that this helps with drawing convincing form, and also trains one's eye.

as for the porn redraws, it is basically the holy grail of finding references that have it all babey. two bodies doing an action and interacting/touching. lots of body parts overlapping and squeezed together and at odd angles and foreshortened and partially obscured. u will learn how to do all of these things. AND ALSO, porn is THE best place to get references for intense, dynamic camera angles. u can film porn on a phone held in almost any spot. on top of learning the body, u are learning perspective. the only problem is that u have to skim through tons of shit ass low quality videos to find the one shot thats worth it lol.

truly this way of studying is not unique lol. but i really like doing studies and have kept up with it. figure drawing is rly fulfilling cus its low stress, doing it at all is a success.
