Is there objectivity in art?
To say there is objectivity in art is to say that there are clearly defined "good" qualities and clearly defined "bad" qualities, which I don't agree with. I know this most likely refers to art as a whole, but this is often used as an argument for putting something like photorealism over more abstract-style renditions, but who is anyone to say one is "better" than the other.
What's the difference between an anime boy butt and an anime girl butt?
Funny story actually, I was watching Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru (the running anime this season) with some friends and there's a butt shot in the OP to which I exclaimed "that's pretty sexy." Later my friends called me out on it when he turned out to be a dude but shrug, still sexy. There's also that one moment in Blend-S, so pretty much nothing.
Why did you kill anime?
Have you seen anime?
with limited money would you decide to buy the manga or the LN for a series you really like?
Probably the LN. Visuals tend to interest me less than writing style/ability. Also, manga tend to kind of be somewhat similar to the anime, while LNs deliver the same information in a different way (for example, Spice and Wolf's LNs show a lot more of Lawrence's inner monologue that really helps understand his actions and why he's doing the things he's doing).
What is your favorite color?
Green! Either a lighter pastel or a dark forest green. I tend to prefer cool colors in general.
What will you say to people that say steins gate characters are "too cliche"?
I think every character is cliche to an extent. I mean, people have been writing stuff for centuries, and anime itself is pretty iterative. I think "cliche-ness" is only a problem when its used as a crutch or easy characterization without spending time, something like "oh, you know what a tsundere is, we'll just give this girl blonde twintails so they know." But if you think about it, a tsundere is literally a person that starts off cold or uninterested and slowly warms up to people... and doesn't that describe most people? Steins;Gate's characters are kind of cliche, but they're suitably fleshed out in my opinion. None of them are their cliches just for the sake of being cliches (Kurisu is very understandably tsundere given her past and Okabe's weirdness, Ruka goes beyond the idea of an otokonoko and is probably just actually trans, etc.).
Does the interpretation of a work not being the originally intended invalidated it?
I don't believe so. I'm pretty firmly on the side of authorial intent not having any particular authority over any other interpretation, but rather it is in the pool of interpretations one may draw from. For example, let's resort to a common argument from called reductio ad absurdum. Let's say J.K. Rowling can't take it anymore, and comes out saying that Harry Potter was actually a piece on how courage and friendship are illusory and will only bring you unhappiness in the end. This is pretty much the antithesis of what Harry Potter actually says, But hey, authorial intent right?
While something this extreme would probably never happen, the point stands—I think each work should be judged on its merits and what's in it rather than looking to outside sources. Not to say that outside sources can't help nudge one towards a particular interpretation, but in my view the work is king, and side-steps the issue of something like poor writing (can an individual intend something but completely fail at executing that intent?).
Hachikuji is the best Monogatari girl , but why?
She's so smart. Throughout Monogatari she serves as a mentor, and I find the dichotomy of her childish appearance yet wise mindset pretty engrossing. Hachikuji is literally an old soul.
Would you let senjougahara put a glass rod down your urethra and stomp on it
Knowing Senjou, wouldn't it be like a stick of staplers? Or like a pencil or something, hmm...
What do you think of Cells At Work?
I have a degree in Biology, so it's novel to see the things I learned explored in anime. At the same time, it's real repetitive and often the show resorts to reading things off of the screen PowerPoint style. RBC's shtick kind of gets old too, I think a dysfunctional one like that would get cannibalized by the body pretty quickly, haha.
