Best (first-person or third-person) shooters in terms of story? That genre seems pretty narratively starved if you don't include stuff like MGS or Portal (not that Portal would rank very highly) that aren't traditional shooters

In terms of modern stuff, Spec Ops: The Line and Call of Juarez: Gunslinger are probably some of the better ones. Otherwise, No One Lives Forever series, Resident Evil 4, the Mafia trilogy (especially 3), and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. are good.
