basically maya was born in a temple but then she got abandoned and grew up in a shrine in kabuki. all the people in her life (especially religious) betrayed/used/neglected her so she was like. fuck god we hate you... then she met matoi ogami and believes that she is the one true god. and she just hates everyone who isn't matoi and wants to cleanse the world of the dirtiness of god by killing everyone #$^#
