I remember you tweeting about being married but also polyamorous. Why are polyamorous relationships so challenging in your opinion?

Yes! Melos and I are both poly and open, and have been for as long as we've been together... a little more than 10 years now. It can certainly be tough to navigate but I would attribute our successes to open communication, a lot of trust, and compersion -- genuine joy from seeing or hearing about the other in situations where we ourselves are not included. Besides the complexity of multiply more relationships (instead of two between two people, it's six between three, twelve between four...!) it can be very difficult to manage feelings of envy, and for that reason it's simply not for everyone. It can also be extremely freeing to realize that you have the power to shed all the social norms and expectations that make you unhappy and don't actually serve you, and having a supportive partner or partners that are like-minded makes it an all-around fulfilling experience.

Being ready and willing to try, even if things don't work, is an important first step that not everyone is mentally prepared for.
