Have you thought about making a discord server at any point? It is pretty difficult to keep up with worldbuilding stuff on twitter when things get buried pretty fast
Is there any lore on Kitsune Maddie you'd be ok with sharing?
Is vore and other stuff like it still niche in your setting?
Vore is a thing but much more common in Nortalia, due to there being more knowledge of magic in that continent. The way it works in my worldbuilding is that anyone who gets eaten wakes up in bed sometime later; the presence of a different person's magic inside of another cause's that person to be reconstituted wherever they were 24 hours previously after digestion happens.
This is probably never going to matter in any meaningful way when it comes to story, but in case anyone wanted to know that this isn't a fatal thing: there's your reassurance.
Any details about Tammy that aren't in her ref sheet?
Tammy is from Earth-95, a lost member of IRIS who got lost during her latest space expedition, stranding her somewhere amongst the stars. She waits for a rescue and takes bounties along the way to keep herself fed, both by the bounties she's paid and by the bounties she hunts!
Eli from Team Sierra Foxtrot tries to seek her out but ends up on Earth instead, making Tammy still MIA and fending for herself.
How did dragon Maddie come to be, or is that a spoiler? Dose your sona have different forms she can change into, dose she have that ability?
While I can't reveal too much, Dragon Maddie is a form that will be relevant to Maddie's character in future chapters and is very much tied to both herself and the world at large.
She is a transformation that happens for secret reasons and is unrelated to Maddibold entirely. I'm eager to explore it when I get to it in the comic, but for now I'm gonna enjoy just drawing her here and there!
Thank you SO much for answering these question' about your world! I loved what you got cooking here. Now unless there's stuff about space I think we're done for now. Again, Thanks for sharing.
What's Nortalia like? what's common and what kinds of people live here? Is it more magical then Surland?
Alright, so this'll be a lot! I'll try and keep it concise:
Nortalia is composed of 3 countries within its mainland—Psionia, Hyfeld, and Yoshido—as well as an isolated landmass that neighbors a few small islands to its south and has lost all land means of approaching, with all bridges that once connected it to the mainland being destroyed. The country has a huge concentration of magic that makes it distinct from the relatively contemporary and magicless Surland.
Psionia, on the west end of Nortalia, is a country belonging to a culture of monks that practice psychic abilities. The environments vary between steep mountains, gorgeous valleys, stepped villages, and grand cities build with stone and marble. In recent years, it's been subject to a huge political upheaval that's resulted in a lot of death and chaos, with corrupt actors now sitting at the top of the social order and forcing subservience upon the populace. There's a lake to the center north that is filled with a dense fog and is impossible to cross without crossing into the afterlife. No one knows what lies at the center.
Shadie and Bruce, Gengar sister and brother, once lived there before escaping to East Jerzi for their lives. Shadie is still upset with leaving her home and this leads to friction between the two. Berika, a Drowzee, escaped during the same upheaval and used her psychic ability to teleport to Earth-95, living in Canada with her friends and running a soap and scent shop there.
Hyfeld, in the center, is a truly varied country—home to lakes, waterfalls, green pastures, a vast forest to the west, a volcanic mountain to the north, and fields leading all the way to the Surland border to the south. There are many medieval-styled civilizations living amongst the eclectic landscape, each of them living in an easy alliance.
To the west are the Deku Woods, which houses the Deku Kingdom deep in its center. The current monarchy was established via a takeover, and has left the prior prince of the kingdom—a Deku named Budwise—to live as a vagrant, being taken in as an apprentice by the outcast witch known as Spellen and teaming up with Duski the twili dragon. On the outskirts of the Deku Woods lives the lone wolf warrior, Zane. He lives a solitary existence in the woods within his own log cabin, and takes it upon himself to deliver vigilante justice to thieves and monsters to save passersby on the roads.
The country of Yoshido greatly resembles Edo period Japan, culturally and aesthetically, although with its own identity. There's a huge blacksmithing culture there and plenty of armor and weapons have made their way out to other areas of Nortalia illegally. An island within the center has been commandeered by an extremist cell of lizardfolks—experimenting with doping drugs and radicalizing kidnapped lizardfolk and those who are willing for the cause—looking to plan a violent revolution across the rest of Nortalia to take revenge for their treatment.
The eastern country of Yoshido is the uneasy home of all lizardfolk; once a willing civilization that allowed plenty of tourists, both in and out, Yoshido is now where lizardfolk are enforced to stay since they were outlawed in the rest of Nortalia. The reasoning was due to lizardfolk being made the fall guys for the existence of monsters, who were actually created by a villain in the shadows unbeknownst to all. Lizardfolk who live in Surland or escaped from Yoshido into Surland enjoy relative freedom but are at times subject to racism from the less accepting folks.
Yondo (a yoshi) and his friends escaped Yoshido to Surland at a young age, now living as a tough gang in the badlands of Paramos.
The final landmass of note is Aisoleit, the aforementioned isolated continental island to the center north of Nortalia. An icy and inhospitable glacier, home to hoards and hoards of monsters and a huge tower that belongs to no one, if you had to ask anyone living in Nortalia. It was, however, designed by and belongs to the one who created all the monsters that plague Nortalia—and the one who made lizardfolk take the blame for it. What are their ambitions? No one seemingly knows, or is even aware of their existence.
How about Tompaashi? It's The last Surland place. how's there, and in addition are there more Surlands that aren't listed? (Is Surland the correct term?)
Tompaashi is the central country in Surland and is the main border between the Nortalia and Surland continents.
The country is a huge mixing pot that closely resembles a mishmash of different African, Indian, and Asian cultures. Since the main border between the two continents is to the north side of Tompaashi, there tends to be a lot of Nortalian immigrants who arrive and bring some of their culture along with them.
My character Azizi the hyena also lives there!
Should Surlandians ever find themselves wishing to travel to Nortalia, then the northern border of Tompaashi would be the official channel, and also the safest way to do so.
Since you and Laura will be playing Cave story soon (at the time of writing this) anything about Semblie that you'd like to talk about?
So, Semblie is a combat agent robot that crash landed onto Earth-93 and had her programming glitch out from impact. She's a very human-esque robot and even needs to eat food to fuel her body.
The problem is, her glitched programming has her ONLY seeking food and nothing else, with all of her inhibitions destroyed. This means she'd gladly stick up a fast food joint to fuel herself and have no qualms stealing candy from a baby, which is fine by her!
She's likely going to incur the wrath of someone who will prove a formidable foe if she goes unchecked for so long!
Noticed the banner has a new boy on it, who's Zane 👀
So! I haven't properly introduced him yet but I'll give him a go right here right now:
Zane is a lone wolf warrior who tends to live on his own in the woods of Hyfeld (Nortalia), which borders the country of Psionia to the west. He will go out of his way to help travelers who fall prey to monsters or highway robbers, as well as eliminating hunters of lizardfolk at night.
His Solanite bracelets amply his strength in the sunlight, and his Lunarium Sword draws power from the moon, allowing him to strike harder and even shoot beams from the blade.
Zane is basically a big tribute to Link, as I'm a tremendous Zelda fan!
What about the Paramo? What are the people like? How is it to live there?
Paramos is a Badlands type of wasteland that is inhospitable for the most part except for the coastal cities that are bordered by a nigh impenetrable wall that guards the inhabitants from the dangerous mainland. The coastal cities utilize any resources obtained from nearby Surlandian countries or via the ocean, and leave the mainland barren and destroyed.
The reasoning behind the state of mainland Paramos is unknown to most, save for those who happen to be old enough to have been there. The mainland is home to raiders and extremely dangerous fauna which dominate the landscape. You need to be a tough motherfucker to eke out a living in the all but abandoned (at least by society) badlands.
Paramos lies in the east side of the continent of Surland, bordering the country of Yoshido which belongs to the continent of Nortalia. Scant denizens have crossed the border from Yoshido into Paramos in order to start a new life, potentially to make it to the west and live comfortably.
I am rather curious, if traditional magic(Like casting a fireball or turning into a dragon, stuff like that) is a thing in this universe, is it something that can be learned or is it more like sorcery where you need to have "magic blood" of sorts to use it?
The way magic works is that it's intrinsic to everybody, and anybody can awaken it provided they have the proper training! As it is right now, there's only three people in the world who practice magic and they are outcasts due to their alignment in a conflict several decades ago.
Magic can manifest in specific elements, or multiple elements if the user talented enough!
Are there any specific voices/kinds of voices you associate with your characters?
I do actually have quite a few voice ideas for my characters!
Grim — Spike Spiegel (Cowboy Bebop)
Cymone — Starfire (Teen Titans)
Thomas — Dandy (Space Dandy)
Shadie — Cree Summers
Bruce — Phil LaMarr
Budwise — Naruto (Naruto) or Koichi (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure)
Duski — Slappy Squirrel (Animaniacs)
Spellen — Izma (Emperor's New Groove)
What's East Jerzi, like whats it like there. Is there a West Jerzi?
East Jerzi is a lot like a very homogenized and compact United States, as far as culture and architecture goes. There's nothing that really sets itself apart from the rest of the world as it's mostly a concrete jungle besides the untouched forests that remain. A lot of the people that live there find it to be "fine" or wish to aspire to live elsewhere or seek out a more fulfilling life.
As far as a West Jerzi, there IS one! It's an island country to the west (of course) that is bridged to the mainland East Jerzi, and is home to mostly rich and affluent people. There's absolutely a culture of looking down on middle class or poorer people, and a lot of the people that try to live there are those that see themselves as "temporarily embarrassed millionaires" and want to live that rich life.
