opinions on dirk strider
Oh boy where do I even start. He is my favorite homestuck character, but also I hate him. I really enjoy how Dirk portrays dissociation without it being literal, his experiences are very reminiscent of dissociative identity disorder without being constrained by realism when telling his story. I very much enjoy how he interacts with Hal, the differences they have, and the nature of their split. Dirk wants to be completely self aware, but in doing that he dehumanizes himself, quite literally with making a version of him who is not alive, and then that forcing him to consider what actually constitutes his own humanity, what makes him who he is. I would go into more depth but it’s been a bit since I read hs.. I need to brush up on it soon.
