u talk about male idols and fans when it comes to sexuality a lot but have u ever thought about how weird the female idols are treated when it comes to that stuff… like w/ aespa karina lol

yes and no. first of all i am not usually being a delusional rpf clown when it comes to girl groups. i just like the music for the most part. so i haven’t seen much of what ur talking about! but i don’t doubt it happens. that being said ive talked before about how gay girl gaydar is a whole nother beast. i feel like closeted and glass closet gay girls look exactly the same in the kpop industry just cause no one is thinking about it like that. when i lived in korea i was in a t4t relationship where we both probably presented as women to outsiders and we never had issues with PDA and holding hands in public. even though one of us was much more masc it just did not register as anything other than friendly to everyone around us. the general public’s gaydar for women is generally pretty bad lol and it’s a huge bummer. anyway that wasn’t the point of your question but to answer i haven’t seen it. i think part of what makes the male idol stuff worse is its often coming from people who don’t spend time with or talk to gay men in real life, but think they know what gay guys are like and think they have a pass to speak about them however because they’re also gay. but most of the people who hope karina is a lesbian are, well, other queer women. so i don’t think it’s easy to make an equivalence between the two. most gay karina truthers are, id assume, good at telling when other women are queer and are applying that lens to her. versus people—queer or not— who don’t know many gay guys irl but think they do. cause let’s be totally honest here, most of the people i’m talking about are not gay guys with lived experience as a gay man. imo they can say what they like because, similar to karina gay truthers, they are recognizing a similarity between themselves and the idol. but once you cross into territory where you don’t know as much about the culture as you think you do, the jokes just come off homophobic anyway.

anyway i don’t wanna make it this big gendered thing because it’s not. there’s also plenty of fellow trans guys on this website who aren’t in community with gay men irl and that colors the way they speak about these idols even though they’re also men. at the end of the day it’s a lot more about what communities you belong to and whether or not you respect other types of people within ur community enough to understand them instead of reducing them to stereotypes or jokes just because you’re also queer. like who does that help?

anyway lol sorry this was not the answer i’m sure u were expecting but i’m gonna defend my sisters who want to believe karina is a lesbian like them.
