FUCK LEE HYUN he was so weird on r u next? he was so disrespectful towards the girls and vey clearly favoured the younger, MINOR girls over the older, adult women. in particular he was always shown reacting weirdly to illit's wonhee, where every time she performed and it cut to his reaction he would have a giant, creepy grin on his face and she got continuous favouritism from the judges despite not performing well until the end of the show (i love wonhee and i think she has massively improved since the end of r u next? to now but it was very clear they desperately wanted her to debut despite her not being ready, so much so that they added a final round of korean-only voting in the finale and massively inflated its weighting to be 70% of the final vote tally because she was the most popular contestant in korea and they wanted her to rank 1st... at the start of the final episode, when the voting, which was already weighted so that the korean fans votes mattered more than the global votes, was revealed, she ranked 9th). if i had to give i-land props for anything it's that the producers on that show were at least always professional and helpful (even in moments like the 'when i wake up in my room' moment); in r u next? we barely got to see them help anyone and even when they did it was often rude and not very productive (lee hyun actually made fun of a girl for the crime of getting a part in a performance, and then later in the show made fun of another for being upset she didn't get the part she wanted from the producers after doing poorly in the previous round with a part she also didn't want to do, and that episode ended with that girl getting eliminated because they said she didn't fit the song! the song they forced her to do! she literally appealed to the producers for a second time because she really wanted to do the other song and they were like "nah we're keeping you in this one because we think it fits you more" like it's so stupid). i was so excited for sunjay radio and then i saw it was lee hyun and immediately was like 😬
