he's autistic. period. i mean, as an autistic person i see so much of myself in him it becomes embarrassing to think about, but it just makes so much sense?? thinking back at the buon san valentino chapter, he's clueless socially and relies on books to know what to do or to explain how he feels (literally me, the amount of times i visited wikihow-) and then shutting down when his emotions become too overwhelming... plus the fact he has his own set of interests that make him happily work for a whole night (during the industrial revolution strips he was vibing while working with mechanic parts without even noticing time passing) and i just aaaa!! autism

for other headcanons mm,, i like to think about his upbringing. the Germany we know was born during the German unification of 1866, so he's really, really young in comparison to other nations (even younger than America!) and despite his appearance and personality, i like to think some of them still treat him kind of like a child. it pisses him off to no end, but then he realizes he, for example, doesn't really know what Veneziano was like when he was a kid. he doesn't know anything about the world before him, and even with books to study, he still feels that immense gap between him and the other nations. i think this can lead to some interesting fanworks, don't you think? 🤔
