he sucks with kids, not because he doesn’t like them, it’s because he feels as if he’s a ticking time bomb and he’s dangerous so he tries to put distance between him and kids. i’m assuming you’re asking me this under the impression that boruto’s storyline is different and it’s my headcanon, so i will go into detail about that. himawari would be an enigma to him, he doesn’t know how to feel about her, because she reminds him so much of naruto that it bothers him. a reminder that things didn’t turn out how he wished (iykyk i won’t go into detail here it’s just in my headcanon doc and those who have it would understand this) but himawari is affectionate by nature. she sees him and smiles, is curious, wonders who the man in the cloak is that comes visits every couple months, and why her father likes rough housing with him even with her mother’s “scolding” to take it out of the house. but she gets used to it, he, however; doesn’t get used to the little flower who runs up to him when hinata opens the door. boruto is understandable, kid is practically worshiping every footstep he makes, but himawari? he tries to avoid her but she’s always there!

on the couch, she’d sit beside him without saying anything, panda stuffy in hand, picture book in the other as she flips the pages. she’d take glances at him and her face would get all warm cuz she’s nervous. dinner visits and she pulls her chair beside him. quietly watching sasuke help boruto with his ninja training. at some point she starts talking even if he doesn’t say anything. she asks him questions even if he doesn’t answer, she just talks like naruto talks when he really likes being around people he’s comfortable with. she’s not ready when he talks back one day though, and her eyes sparkle as she stares at him and sasuke has to look away cuz it’s embarrassing! she’s looking at him as if he just gave her the best gift ever.

soon enough, himawari is hugging him when he visits. playing with his hair as he sits on the couch. bothering him to read her stories before he leaves again. she loves uncle sasuke, and sasuke can’t help but smile a little when he sees her now. it’s a rough time to get used to her little shenanigans but it’s fun, because she reminds him of naruto as a kid and he wants to preserve that happiness she feels. hehehe

i’ll be so honest, his plan made sense, his anger made sense. the execution? maybe a little wonky, but i don’t think he’d be as alone as people think. he would mourn the loses, probably regret it a lot, but he’d be so hyper vigilant and focused on making the world into something itachi wanted that he’d just move on with time and create other bonds. he’s a good kid, he’s caring, even if he were to go to the extreme, the reason is because of all the pain he felt, and the wish to make his brother a hero as he was. though, him not succeeding with detaching himself from naruto is great as it is, i just wished that despite his failure there, he would have still been able to not let itachi’s sacrifice go as unknown as it currently is. konoha is still in the dark, and it’s safe to assume that they have a prejudiced view of the uchiha and itachi. living in ignorance but hey i don’t think kishi thought that far!
