Hi, what time in what time zone will the rejection/acceptance emails be sent?
Emails will be sent out this evening at 7:30 PM CST (GMT-5)!
How many applications did you guys end up getting in the end? (And best of luck sifting through all of them!)
We received a total of 98 applications: 24 writers, 57 page artists, and 17 merch artists!
hi! i accidentally submitted my artist application in the writer catagory (i had both opened to submit seperately and it was 4am), should i resubmit my application though the artist one and have the writer one deleted or disregaurded?
Hello! We saw your application, and we've manually shifted it over to the correct category! No need to resubmit!
hi! what time in what time zone are applications due
Applications are due at 11:59 PM CST (GMT-5) on April 30!
assuming a writer has one sample that they’re proud of and that’s focused on orv women in their application already, would it be better for them to try to include another sample focused on orv women that they don’t think is the best demonstration of their technical writing skill or writing about other characters that they think better demonstrates their abilities?
In this case, it depends on whether you'd like to showcase your character writing or technical skills more: mods consider each portion equally!
Hiiii sorry if this is like...super dumb lol. I'm like 99% sure I already submitted an application but I wanted to go back and see if I submitted the right piece, and I can't find a single email confirming that I submitted the form? I feel like I remember something about not being able to edit the form, but I thought there was at least a confirmation email...I don't suppose you know if the form automatically sends those upon submission? And if not, would it be terrible to possibly apply twice just in case?
Hello! This is a mistake on our part: we didn't enable email confirmations for the forms until recently; our apologies! If you'd like to confirm that you submitted your application, feel free to DM us and we'll let you know. If you're uncomfortable doing so, you can submit another application, and if we received the first one, we'll disregard the duplicate!
I have a fic centered around an ORV woman, but it´s part of a copilatory work (each chapter is a fic on its own). It´s okay if I use it as a sample?
Yes! Please make sure to link to the specific chapter that contains your fic.
Hello, I am wondering since I don't have any existing writing pieces specifically centred around orv women, but am interested in writing one, would I not be able to apply?
At least one of your samples must be centered around an ORV woman because we'd like to understand how you characterize them. If none of your samples follow this requirement, your application will be automatically rejected.
Hi! I only have one sample featuring ORV women, but it's not included in my portfolio. Is it alright to submit that as a sample then submit the portfolio with works from other fandoms?
Yes, that's fine! Our only requirement for writers is that one of your samples must center an ORV woman — the rest of your portfolio doesn't need to!
hi! ik that we're not allowed to used previous work as our zine piece but are we allowed to use something that hasnt been published but we've written before if it fits with the requirements? also, are we allowed to use what we submitted for applications if we extend it?
We'd like to encourage that pieces for the zine are created during the creation period. Additionally, we'd specifically like to ask that you don't use any piece you submitted for an application!
is it alright if we choose not to share any of our socmeds? or are they required to apply?
You don't have to share your social media! If you don't want to, just answer the question with 'N/A'.
what timezone will it be when contributor apps close?
Contributor applications will close at 11:59 PM CST (GMT-5) on April 30!
hii i m in love with your design and colors for carrd and all, can you please share which program do you using for creating gif's like in this post https://twitter.com/ORVWomenZine/status/1647608284575039488?s=20
Our graphic designer uses Adobe Illustrator for icons and embellishments, AfterEffects to animate, and Photoshop to save the graphic as a gif!
can artists make horizontal pieces, i.e. canvas size of 3850 x 2975 instead of 2975 x 3850?
Artists can make horizontal pieces! Since they'd be in the form of a spread, dimensions would be 3850x5950.
hello, I feel like I'm not understanding something. if this zine is free and digital, why are the contributor spots limited? the normal circumstances of having to account for production costs don't apply, and it's really not that difficult to set deadlines and say "if your piece is done by X time you're in and if not you're out." feels really...gate-keepy to reject people for a free/digital zine.
Thanks for your question! We understand the confusion, but we have a few reasons to limit the number of contributor spots. For one, we intend to provide individualized feedback to each contributor. We only have one writing mod and one art mod, so it would be unfeasible to do so with a greater number of contributors than we're currently planning to accept. Additionally, managing check-ins and extension requests can be a complicated process, and we'd feel uncomfortable having to personally keep track of the schedules of over 40 contributors.
Finally, we have one layout mod who will be formatting the entire zine, and we don't want to overwhelm them with too many submissions: we intend to format this with care, which takes a large amount of time, effort, and individualized attention to each piece so that the zine as a whole flows well.
We understand it can be frustrating to potentially face rejection from a digital project, since there's no production costs that can result in a 'hard limit' for the number of contributors, but we want to be able to provide a smooth experience for our contributors, and this is how we can best ensure that we're capable of staying on top of things.
