A zine celebrating Oumota with the theme of canon divergence!

is there an estimate of how many contributors will be accepted?
As written in the "FAQ" section of our carrd, exact numbers will vary based on the applications, but we plan to accept around 5 writers, 20-25 page artists, and 4-5 merch artists.
When will results be announced?
As per our schedule, which can be found on our carrd, result emails will be sent out on February 18th.
for the applications, are samples just examples of our work and do they have to be oumota related?
You can see more detailed guidelines around what we expect for your samples on the "Application Guidelines" section of our carrd. But yes, they are just examples of your work. Oumota-related samples are not mandatory but recommended so we know how you depict them.
I was wondering if comic/ mural format would be allowed for the Page artist section, or you can only draw an illustration of a specific scene.
You're in luck; our art mod, Cael, specialises in mural-style pieces and we'll be open to a wide range of artistic styles so long as all pieces fit within our theme! We will be featuring comics and spreads as well, however we will only have so many pages allotted for artists to do multi-page comics or spreads, so these will be assigned based on pitches/thumbnails once contributors are accepted into the project. Hope that answers your question!
would anything related to pregame count as a canon divergence?
Not for this project, no. All pieces will take place within the killing game (or potentially afterwards, depending on the pitch.)
What would be the desired word count for an application?
Hello! As written in our application guidelines (located on the "Application Guidelines" tab on our carrd) your fic samples should be at least 1,000 but not exceeding 2,500 words. This length is also what we will expect of writers who are accepted into the project. Thank you for your interest!
If I’m interested as a cover and merch artist, do I have to email you my portfolio? Thank you for this opportunity!
You can apply for contributor positions once we open our applications on January 7th. Bear in mind we might be inviting our cover artist rather than accepting applications for the position (we will ultimately decide on all guest positions a month from now) but you will have the opportunity to show us your portfolio via the application forms we post. I hope this helps!
how many responses have you gotten on the interest check as of seeing this ask? :3
89! We'll feel most confident going physical if we receive over 100 responses. Please share the interest check with anyone you know who loves Oumota!
For writer applications, do you accept excerpts from crossover fics?
No specifications for fandoms for your samples, apply with what you consider to be your strongest works. Please have at least one Danganronpa sample, but the rest is fair game. We would also ask that you note any spoilers for other fandoms present in pieces you submit!
Will the zine feature depictions of Ouma Kokichi’s hat?
Due to the history behind the symbols on Kokichi's hat, our project will NOT include any illustrations featuring it. If a contributor chooses to include the hat at all, we will require that the symbols on the hat be changed, likely to the DICE logo for consistency.
We don't expect there to be a ton of content within the actual zine featuring the hat at all. It's a possibility for merch or in anything featuring his motive video, but otherwise it shouldn't show up much. However our zine will not feature any hate speech related symbols even in the event that Kokichi's hat does get drawn. I hope this is helpful.
I understand that with most zines, you can apply for multiple spots but you will only receive one. I think that makes a lot of sense for art, however I'm interested in applying as both a Writer and a Cosplayer, so I'd like to know ahead of time if I could only receive one role! (ALSO COSPLAY IN A ZINE IS SO COOL HOLY COW!!)
Hi there, as we stated in our FAQ, while you can apply for as many roles as you'd like we will typically only accept you into one position. However, in the specific case of writing and cosplay, we could potentially discuss you contributing a cosplay as a visual accompaniment to a fic, in place of spot illustrations, if that makes sense. We expect to receive a significantly smaller amount of cosplay applications versus other apps, so it's possible that you wouldn't be taking any slots away even if you did take both roles. (This would of course be in the event that your application is on par with what we visualise for our project.) So the answer is a solid maybe, and something that you can be in discussion with Mod Cael (our cosplay mod) and Mod Toxic (our writing mod) about if you get accepted. I hope this helps!
Will this zine host the idea of AUs? Or is it solely focused on canon divergences of the events in the killing game?
This question is answered under the FAQ section of our carrd, but wasn't previously clarified so I apologise for that. No, we will not be hosting "AUs" in the sense that you're probably asking. Anything that changes the canon does technically count as an alternate universe, but our zine will only feature content that takes place within the killing game. From there the divergences in the canon can be as big or as small as people want, up to their own discretion.
HOW canon divergent are we talking anyways? can we imply entirely different events and deaths happening, or does it need to stay mostly the same with only the major changes revolving around ouma and kaito?
Hi there, as long as the setting remains the same (e.g. within the killing game with the same talents) divergences can be as big or as small as you'd like them to. The only real "divergence" we won't allow is anything that will completely alter the status quo, such as taking them out of the killing game, changing their talents, or altering the fundamental rules of the universe (so, for example, making Kaito or Kokichi a different species or involving magic beyond the level that it already exists in Danganronpa). We can have a more detailed conversation on what "canon divergence" looks like with contributors once they are accepted, but I hope that clarifies things!
