and HMM fascinating question... i'm kind of in the same boat. like i've been in fandom for about as long and def have many adult things to do haha but i haven't felt the need to Create for a ship in the same way before them? i think for me they check off so many of my fav ship characteristics: the bickering underlain w obvious mutual affection and deep mutual respect. the versatility, ship-wise—you could convince me of practically any ship dynamic, as long as you do it well, bc irl they both take turns caring for each other, poking at each other, being childish and mature in turns. i like that they're so similar in so many ways and yet just different enough that they don't always understand each other, though such misalignment generally doesn't result in genuine conflict (i find the idea that they've never really Fought though they bicker all the time to be fascinating!). i like the idea of two people who generally don't need to talk to communicate who nevertheless choose to do so anyways, whether over late night drinks and snacks or otherwise. two people who are both incredibly driven in their own ways, who would (no doubt) be equally driven to make a relationship work. for me, they're the epitome of deliberately choosing to love someone else, choosing to do things for someone even though you know full well they can do it themself, just because you love them. there's nothing starcrossed about them in my eyes, no grand cosmic plan or contrived soulmateism. if they're together it's because they want to be, and that compels me.

i also love the idea of them being friends above anything else. seungmin being minho's first friend at jyp, seungmin saying if they had been at school together they would be best friends... i love that even though their interests don't necessarily overlap, they still bond over so many things. their joint commitment to being deeply annoying and making fun of their members, for one (i loooove that they both jump in to cause trouble even when they don't necessarily know what's going on, like when minho and hyunjin were tasked w doing silly dances in that one video and seungmin just started doing his own silly dance too completely unprompted 😭), and their joint dedication and persistence, for another.

i guess all of which is to say that i'm not sure what makes them Special, to me. all i know is that i'm fascinated by their relationship dynamic and find it rlly touching and compelling for all the reasons listed above, and i just cannot stop thinking abt them 😭 hope this helps in some way! please feel free to come back w ur own thoughts—i'd be interested to hear what draws you to them as well!
