severance. dare i say it's the best series debut from the past few years and it's outright insulting to me that no one in my radar talks about it. i don't want to give away too much bcs i personally think people should go into the series knowing so little about it, but the way i'd describe severance is that it's a dystopian sci-fi meets corporate horror. though it's marketed as so, the workplace drama will have you by the throat still. the element of truth hits alarmingly close to home, to our reality. if you're a captive in a cutthroat rat race where you feel like a machine engineered by your company, you'd definitely resonate with this one.
the other thing i want to note is how the visuals appear spaced out with unnerving wide shots. the confinement is empty, singular and perhaps liminal; the complete opposite of the theatrical nature the characters have. it almost feels like the walls echo back every turmoil they experience, no matter how small. oh and not to mention the nice contrast of the green carpet. you know a series is about to be good when they have pretty flooring.
all things considered, severance is so well thought out, the performance is stellar, the visuals are displeasingly stunning, and the substance is consistently in good quality all throughout. what else do you hope from a series? severance already catered everything.
If you were a part of a tree, what would it be and why?
Kak alaaaa kangen nonton bareng 🥺
ummm also favorite books !!
this is a calling for me to pick up a goddamn book bc my fav remains the same as last year’s: one hundred years of solitude by gabriel garcia marquéz & know my name by chanel miller. but if i gotta pick a fav from my recent read, it’s gonna be animal by lisa taddeo. it’s the pinnacle of female rage and i love me sum of that.
what’s your top bands or singers to listen
ah i’ve been in a deep rut and have only been doing a deep discog dive on fiona apple. she has a really fascinating life and it translates rly well in her music, which made it all the more fascinating for me. it’s also interesting that the internet seems to love reducing her career as this caricature of ‘crazy girl music’ which actually is the whole point that she’s trying to prove against. but she’s all in all a musical genius so u should rly check her works out if u haven’t already.
