"pipes" came from "pipelinks", which came from wikipedia's "piped links", aka links the text of which differs from the title of the article they lead to

as for why i decided to make that my name -- i have absolutely no idea lmao
neither do i know why i decided to shorten it to "pipes". "plinks" would've made more sense, since that's what a lot of my friends called me at the time lol
