eeek!!! to be completely candid i don’t feel like the companions relationships are shown very well in game and a lot of it is fanon… like there’s few cutscenes including two companion characters genuinely talking to each other and most of the interactions are short banter. unless you play as an origin character you don’t really see anything special and yk the dialogue is only different for origin characters sometimes. anyways i’ll stop with my longwinded explanation and just say what i think
i don’t care for bloodweave. nothing wrong with it just have no interest in it at all.
not interested in halstarion, as surprising as that sounds. really just do not care at all
meh on bladeweave. two really charming characters that i adore but personally im not sure about their romantic compatibility. i think they’re both on different romantic relationship wavelengths. but i can also see some things that would make them a good pairing: commitment, wyll would be a grounding relationship for gale post mystra, gale would be an attentive partner for wyll.
really don’t like shadowzel. i’m sorry but ive never really liked shadowheart especially not in relation with lae’zel or any gith tav. people say their enemies to lovers or whatever and what i think is the “enemy” part is just a deep set racial bias (and yes lae’zel says stuff about shadowheart being an elf but it’s nothing so blatant as shadowheart and gith). shadowheart is the only companion so fixated on a character being gith and one line that really makes me feel yuck is she’s like “i’ll rethink your people” just yuckkk. and there’s no real “i was wrong” blablabla (which would be weak redemption). and personally her story could be so much more compelling than it is! honestly it feels so underbaked. there is so much you can do with deeply engrained religious brainwashing and yet all her character is, is i’m cold and don’t like talking about myself. when she does talk about herself i genuinely like that but you don’t even see the struggle of her fighting against her faith in veiling herself in mystery other than the mark on her hand that feels underwhelming. just so much missed potential to make me actually connect with her other than “that was a funny line.” anyways. sorry if you’re like a big shadowheart fan or something..

literally can’t muster a single feeling on shadowlach. like i don’t recall a single bit of banter between them other than just meeting karlach. i bet there is some funny flirting lines.

only actually enjoy any wyll, karlach, astarion combination. they’re stories are all similar. karlach and wylls are literally intertwined in some way. astarion actually has somewhat meaningful dialogue about karlach when reacting to her quest lines other than “poor karlach” because there’s a similarity between them. like i can actually believe their relationship. wyll is just brilliant of course. he is incredible selfless when it comes to karlach — as he is to anyone — risking himself the moment he meets her. it’s “fate” or whatever. i really like wyllstarion for the same reason people say “wyll is boring” (incredible eye roll) because wyll is stability. he is literally the prince charming. and i really do think astarion sort of needs a prince charming. and it would do wyll some good to have someone less….. proper? someone to even him out and tell him to be a little selfish at times because he deserves it more than anyone. and of course all three of them together is just delicious

i think npc ships are more interesting to me because … there are cutscenes. i think minthara and jaheria is just fun and interesting. also love the idea of jaheria and nine fingers just so good.

honestly when it comes to halsin i really don’t see any companion of interest. really is romance is so specific to tav and yk and it would be the same if you played as a origin character and romanced him. i really enjoy his romance either way though so i really don’t have any thoughts on specific ships other than just his romance as a whole. actually let me copy a rant i posted on my priv about him lol:
feel like halsin is incredibly mischaracterised and has been turned into "himbo daddy" as his only characteristics. honestly think most fandom perception of bg3 characters are what make me so neutral on them (especially astarion). halsin is a middle age elf who has dedicated his life to keeping natures balance. a task at which he "fails" when moonrise fully succumbs to the blight. He then has to settle down and govern the grove which is something he feels unfit to do because he just failed to do his perceived one task as a druid. he obviously has grown resentful of his life and is looking for anyways to expand it beyond the grove, uncomfortable with being tied down. also continuing to blame himself for the shadow curse. unable to process any trauma he's experienced throughout his life, trying to turn any horrific memories of his youth into something to admire and yearn for again because his present has become so horrid to him. during his romance tav or a origin character literally and metaphorically removes the darkness from his life and steers him towards an exciting and prosperous future.

and i you probably didn’t really expect or want anything like this but it’s like i can’t keep my mouth shut or soemthing
