first off, omg! thank you?? lollll idk AGH. and now advice i suppose… i think a big thing that’s helped me is … TRACING. scary word but it’s a helpful exercise!!! blocking out the body in geometrical shapes helps process the movement easier. as well as mapping and understanding the stretch of muscles! i’ll add a time lapse to show: i’m tracing over the pose and taking liberties. i’m not being exact but i’m marking out where i see coming muscle interaction and how they stretch and limit body movement. then i’m loosely drawing the pose (its not exact in any means) and then drawing those same muscle interactions. the body type is different, the pose itself is different, there are a few mistakes that i would probably redraw if i wasn’t just doing a quick example, but it’s loosely the same pose with the same fundamentals.
a big thing is that i’m being very expressive with my lines. don’t be scared to just do big bold strokes. really i think line confidence is what makes me appear a bit better than i actually am lol! it’s difficult to feel good about your art but try to avoid chicken scratching your poses and just really go for it! be expressive and messy and build a pose out of those big confident lines. being confident with your lines kinda makes you feel more confident about your art in general (well at least it has for me)! for awhile i was doing mostly traditional stuff so being confident was sort of important for my art. try doing pen only drawings to build your line confidence. the pen makes you have to feel more sure of what you’re doing. and also don’t worry if it doesn’t look good man! no one’s judging you! just scratch it and start over who cares!!!!!
