the old fella has said a lot of things in his time, and he doesn't care much for making himself understood, and has a tendency to say things that get people all riled up. i'd rather read critical interpretations of his work than engage with it directly, and i scrupulously avoid zealots for or against him. he's perfectly sweet if you happen to find yourself in a lift with him
