Dandelion is a shadow, but does he cast a shadow?
I'm going to say no, he doesn't have a shadow. (I may forget this when drawing him lol)
salut j aime vos dessins
Aw thank you so much! <3
I just want you to know that self-flagellation is so slutty and thank you for the drawing of basil with the cilice. also, have you ever considered a battle nun as a girlfriend for one of your demons? :> i love hunter/demon content as well as sexualizing the religious.
Hehe self-flagellation is indeed very slutty. I should explore Basil's masochism more.
I've actually been avoiding adding other human characters to the cast. I don't know, haven't been really thought of one that was worth shifting the dynamic for. However, there is a thing in my story where if you've been in hell long enough, you're body starts to change to be demonic, a reflection of your soul and sins. So maybe there's an avenue there for a hunter nun character whose been fighting in hell for so long that she has become monstrous in body but still pious in soul.
Have you ever thought about what your demon OCs would look like as humans? Like, what would a human Dandelion or a human Thistle would look like?
I have a bit! I admit, I've been very stubborn about showing dandelion as a human because that would involve giving him a face. I would prefer letting people's imagination fill in that, it's part of his mystique. I can give you a sketch of thistle though, she would pretty gruff and messy as a human lol. Depression is less romanic when you're not a lost war demon.
Can I draw Dandelion kissing one of my OCs? Asking for science 👉👈
You have my blessing, anon.
what drawing platform do you use and what brush??? this is so hyperspecific but i need to know😭
Alright, let me try to just get this all in a nice list here.
For sketching I usually use procreate with these brushes:
Most of the standard pencil brushes, usually 6b or Hb pencil
Monomania by Truegrit (https://www.truegrittexturesupply.com/products/monomania)
Kolormarc markers also by Truegrit(https://www.truegrittexturesupply.com/products/kolormarc-markers-for-procreate-photoshop-affinity-clipstudio)
Then I usually use Clip Studio Paint for finished illustrations:
The main brush I use is this one here, it's my favorite, the Caspar brush (https://assets.clip-studio.com/en-us/detail?id=1708763)
Then I also use this Rough Yeti Brush for texture and crosshatching from this pack here (https://www.zombieyeti.com/free-manga-studio-5-ink-brush-pens/)
AAAAAND I use this Turbo Textures Brush Kit from Retrosupply for that nice analog textures (https://www.retrosupply.co/products/turbo-textures)
Hope that helps!
are basil/dandelion/thistle like a poly thing, or would one of them like it to be?
Kiiind of? Thistle definitely wouldn't be interested lol. They all have sex with each other and have very personal connections, but Dandelion and Basil are pretty committed to each other romantically. She and Basil are specifically "very close friends with benefits".
You mentioned XXXHolic being an influental inspiration for Father Basil and Dandelion- do you think any of your other characters were influenced by CLAMP's other works?
Haha, that would probably require a look through clamp's other works to remind myself buuuut the one that comes to mind it probably Yukito from Cardcaptor Sakura as an inspiration for Sage. He has that quirky sweet but air headed vibe with a true form that Sage has.
Would Dandelion be sad if he could not see Basil anymore (aka he found his friend and went back)? Moreover, would Basil miss hell in a way?
Oooh, Dandelion would be miserable in a way he would never ever admit. He would, in theory, move on but quietly always would yearn for Basil. Something that ended up making him feel complete was taken away from him, and he would forever feel less because of it.
I don't know how much he would miss Hell in general, but Basil would dearly miss the little surprisingly comfortable corner he made in it. He would quietly miss the adventures, the friends he made, the way he felt like he could be his true self, and, of course, he would deeply miss Dandelion.
Their relationship gets to a point where they are more miserable apart than what ever dire circumstances that comes with being together.
out of all the demons he's interacted with and banged, which is basil's favorite, and is not dandelion?
Hmm, like personally? It would be Thistle. They click on a very specific level. Sex wise? Hollyhock. Yeah, that aphrodisiac biting does a bit of a number on the brain and makes sex very enjoyable, especially for someone who might think too hard about things like Basil.
how does it feel to create the hottest oc's??
Pretty good, anon, pretty good. Really makes all of those blood sacrifices really worth it, you know?
not sure if this is an appropraite question, but how much do you make off of your art/storytelling (patreon, books, ect)? have you always wanted to be an artist/writer? is art/writing your end goal career wise, or do you have other plans?
Oh, sure, I can talk about this. It's a bit complicated though, so be warned.
At the moment, I have two major income streams. Currently, I draw for traditionally published graphic novels, where I get a big advance before and after and (in theory) royalties. These jobs take up about 80% of my time. For the one I'm currently working on, and have been for the past year or so, paid upfront 17k (minus agent fees). That with various freelance projects and the two patreons (my sfw and nsfw), I made around 60k last year income. A lot of it came from the nsfw patreon.I will be getting the other 17k sometime in the next couple of months as the project finishes.
I do want to be clear, this was a very good year for me. Over double the income of the past 4 or so years where I was completely relying on freelance and gns. I've made the joke that my porn career pays for my comic hobby and it's, uh, not wrong, lol. Taxes were really rough though. Remember to save at least 10% of your income folks! Accountants are worth it!
I've only started writing recently, so it doesn't really compare much to my years long art career, but Part 1 of Temptations has made 1.5k over the past two months, which paid for the editing I got for it so I'm considering that profitable lol. Maybe it will grow, but it really is a passion project. My other big writing project, my webcomic Kingfisher, does not make a lot of money, maybe around 300 per month. Also a big passion project lol.
But for the other half the questions: yes, I always wanted to do art and comics and writing! I love doing it! I've been very lucky that I've had supportive family and found myself in a very stable position money wise that lets me pursue this career and a lovely audience for it. I can't afford to buy a house, but I don't have to worry about rent or groceries, so I'm pretty happy. I want to be able to transition my career to writing more and pitching original stories to publishers rather than just drawing them and maybe experiment more with prose. I also, uh, don't really have a back up career if work super dries up or something drastic happen, so lets hope it all works out, shall we?
which character, if removed, do you think would change the storyline/universe in which your characters live in the most?
OOOoooh, interesting question! With Temptations, there are some obvious ones (If Father Basil didn't come to Hell, there wouldn't be a story, etc) but beyond that, I would say Dandelion would change the most.
If Basil didn't meet Dandelion, he would have easily been eaten by the She-Wolf or captured by a demon or some other gristly fate. There is a slew of AUs potential of which demon Father Basil ends up meeting and hooking up with first. If he had met, say, Hollyhock first and fallen under the demon's influence, the story would've been completely different.
Meanwhile, in Mad Dog, if Malady didn't exist, Lapis probably would've just kept living his con artist life until eventually dying or his past comes back to haunt him in a particularly bad but unsurprising way. BUT if Lapis didn't exist, Malady would've remained under his master's control, never having a chance at freedom, and eventually helping his masters plans that has Bad effects on the rest of the world. It's interesting how that would work out.
what are your characters favorite fruits?
Okay that's a lot of characters BUT
Basil: Apple
Dandelion: Pomegranate
Hollyhock: Strawberries
Thistle: Gooseberries
Fig: Figs (ha)
Ginger: Orange
Sage: Also apples
Malady: Blackberry
Lapis: Also oranges
do you have a favorite character from your story(/ies)?
eeeEEeehh, let's say Dandelion. He's so easy to write and draw and always so fun. I can honestly say I consider him one of my strongest characters too. I can literally write pages and pages of Dandelion and Basil banter.
