Hi, I know that it's stated on the gdoc that the writings for this zine shouldn't be focused on ships, so would you rather have samples of writing that are not ship-based? I'm really interested in applying, but most of my writing are of ships. Thank you for taking the time to answer!

how will the zine move forward with production without an interest check?
Hi! The mods ultimately came to this decision thanks to prior experience in the zine scene. While an interest check is often a good way to gauge community interest in a zine's concept, we thought that HSR excitement (both ours and yours!) as well as the more general thematic spread of our zine meant that an interest check wouldn't necessarily serve the purpose it normally would! That being said, we don't expect our lack of an interest check to affect production.

hi! for the artist apps, i saw that one piece should at least feature dan heng - would it be okay to edit our app if we ever decide to add sample pieces of dan heng to our portfolio, or would it be okay to not have any sample pieces of him? i havent had time to draw him but i ll try to have one piece of him! 🙏 thank you!

Hi! I noticed there was another dan heng zine that is happening at roughly the same time (https://x.com/danhengilzine?s=21&t=eF0SCP3WZMgIsuOV4q0BKQ), I feel like this might impact sales/reach.. (and I’d personally prefer just to buy one large bundle than two separate ones haha), are there any plans to maybe combine these projects?
Hi! Yes we are aware that there is another Dan Heng zine running at approximately the same time as ours. We reached out to their mod team and have spoken with them about our schedules. We've adjusted our schedule to account for this closeness in time. Unfortunately, there are no plans at this current point in time to combine these projects, so we hope you will understand!

hi! what is the difference between 3 samples and a portfolio? do you mean 3 fully drawn pieces and on top of that a portfolio of other works? i’m just a bit confused as to what this means.. thank you :)
Hi! Your three samples are the three best examples of your work. We'll be using these samples as the primary means of evaluating your application. Your portfolio is there to show us the breadth of your work - during the judging process, we'll be using your portfolio to make final decisions, should the mod team be split, or feel as if we need extra insight!

if we've never sold merch before, but would like to try out making merch art for the zine, would it be fine to still apply? :0 i can draw chibis but i'm not sure if what you guys are looking for in portfolios are people who've already sold merch before...

Hello! As Samsara is focused on Dan Heng's past and present, all content created for it will be canon only. Since there's not a lot we know yet about Dan Feng in particular, contributors are more than welcome to make liberal use of their headcanons to fill in the blanks as they see fit.

How do the mods plan on dealing with finances and transparency when it comes to buyers and contributors?
Thank you for your question! The finances for this zine will be handled by Mod Tanju and the shipping will be handled by Mod Ren, who both have experience within their respective roles. Within the mod team, our Paypal Account information will be shared amongst us to ensure that multiple people will have access to the funds at all time. Our finance sheet will be actively available and updated frequently within our zine server for accountability, and all receipts will be posted when the production period begins. As this is a for-profit project, we will have a final explanation of profit distribution once the project concludes.
For transparency for all buyers, we will be uploading frequent production and shipping updates when we approach that period of the zine.
Everyone on the SAMSARA mod team understands the importance of handling this project with caution and transparency, as zines have now evolved into the format of a small business, and we intend to handle it as such.
