I am NOT voicing my opinions on mspec mono discourse because I think it’s stupid, but what I will say is…
Bisexual women are more likely to be victims of domestic abuse than almost any other group. For decades, bisexual WLW have been shoved out of WLW spaces and have been seen as “traitors”, “fakers” and as though we only exist for the pleasure of men. Bisexual men have been blamed for the spread of deadly diseases like HIV and AIDS - bisexual men partnered with women are stereotyped as cheaters who will leave them for men, as insatiable & unfaithful. We are often neglected in our own spaces & the media, with bi representation being so often forgotten or erased. Both fictional and real life bisexuals are seen as “basically straight” or “basically gay”, with our bisexuality being seen as a “mistake” or even “problematic”. It’s incredibly difficult to be a bisexual both off and on the internet, which many people who are not bisexuals seem to misunderstand.
Instead of arguing about pointless microlabels on the internet - focus on uplifting the bisexuals in your life & making us feel welcome in your spaces. The people affected THE MOST by this stuff are always going to be the bisexuals. Stop forgetting about us. Think about how your words & actions affect bisexuals, for just one moment.
If you want to know more about bi history & bi culture, I made this masterdoc on bisexuality that elaborates on some common misconceptions about bisexuality. I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have on RS, too.
All I ask is that you all prioritize bisexuals where you can, especially if you’re going to spend your time squabbling about this shit. We’re so often forgotten and neglected even in our own communities.
