hi! I was curious about something in your authors note from JOY! you mentioned reading non-fic about game development? what is non-fic? like non-fiction books? and do you have any recommendations? it sound cool!
hiiii yes i read some non fiction books on game development! the first one that i read has to be the most popular one, it’s called “blood sweat and pixels” and basically talks about the successful creation stories of the most famous video games! that’s what got me interested in video games development au in the first place—a story of making something is always good, right? the second one i read was from the russian guy Alexander Vetushinsky so i’m unsure if you can find anything from him, but he basically wrote the short history on games in general and then analyzed it and compared it to what we know about the video games and the way they developed so far!! there’ll be some quotes from this book in the fanfic because you can’t just say “a game is an act of correcting the world” and expect me to act normal ! :p but he definitely was the one who really got me into this whole thing. another i read was also russian, and it was called “architecture of video gaming worlds” and basically talked about how to improve experience of a player in this specific area. and then i started reading level up! by scott rogers i believe (?) and i think it’s the one that i abandoned halfway because i got impatient and i went straight into joy! writing mode kekeke but definitely it was super interesting and helpful and i should go back!
i hope my reply is at least slightly useful 😭🤍
