heyyyy, so i saw your bpd tweets and sorry if im rude or something for asking but i have a few questions and it would mean the world if you could answer them (only if you want to fr) first, how did you get your diagnosis? second, if you're currently attending therapy, what's the approach? like is it just talking about feelings like most therapy sessions are or do people with bpd need any kind of specific therapy?
im curious cause i got diagnosed with bpd too but it was like 3 years ago and it wasn't on paper or anything, it was my psychologist (who i'd been seeing for around two years) saying "i think this is what you have", at first it made sense but and i went on with it but the therapy never changed and i never felt any improvement that wasn't medicine related, after that, because my country's health system sucks, i had to change psychologist like 5 and i was told by like 2 of them that i might have ADHD instead, a few friends with ADHD have also told me that and sometimes i feel like i do but i don't wanna self diagnose and i still have bpd symptoms so i feel clueless and hopeless. tbh i've read a fair amount of info about ADHD because my sibling has it but it makes me confused cause that sibling is completely different from me and like i know different disorders manifest and feel different on everyone, but since im not sure about the bpd either it all feels so confusing and im not sure about what's the process to get an accurate diagnosis 😭😭 i currently can't access a psychiatrist and i can only attend one therapy session once every 3 months so i wanna see other options but i wanna know what options are even there 😭 sorry if this is too long D: again if you don't want to you don't have to answer

oh my. so, as for my diagnosis, i was diagnosed by my old therapist (she had the authority to do so, i know it’s different for other therapists though). mine had also never made it onto paper :/ this seems to be the case with a lot of bpd patients. i do not attend therapy anymore, because it became too overwhelming. medication is also keeping me afloat right now. i have a concoction of a couple of medications. as for you, it would be best to have frequent appointments of dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), but i know that can be really rough on people. also!!!! i think self diagnosis is fine as long as you’ve done your own extensive research. that’s actually how i felt like i needed to be assessed for it. i’d had symptoms that were lasting for almost a decade (i caught it really early — 15 years old, and that’s earlier than people usually get diagnosed. i got my diagnosis at 22). healthcare in my country (the US) is really bad, too, so i feel for you :( i hope we can both figure something out that works best for us!
