Thank you so much for your hard work subbing Starlight stuff! I (and all revue fans I’m sure) am super appreciative of the translations for sure. My one question was, is there any way to access the subbed plays without downloading a torrent file? I’ve managed to do it a couple times but as someone less tech savvy it’s difficult. Thank you!!
hi! so there's a youtube channel NothingToSeeHere that uploads the videos to youtube unlisted, but since they're not me they might take a while to upload new releases. frankly I would do it myself but they already have an audience and encoding and uploading takes a long time.. I do want to eventually hardsub everything I have and upload it to a (or several) drives just so I have an answer when people ask me this haha.
if you do have access to torrent sites (i know some people don't as their ISP blocks it) then i think it's really useful to get used to torrenting things, if you want to download anything it's a lot faster with torrents if they have enough seeds because of how they work (multiple people send you different parts of the file at once). all you need to do is navigate to the torrent page and click the magnet link and it'll open your torrent client directly, I never download the torrent file personally. sorry if this comes off rude I'm a big advocate of torrenting cause I've been doing it since I was 12 😭

thank you !! aside from the obvious answer of Shiro's 15 min trip to hell i love the shirokui moments in this play like shiro luisa playfully slapping kuina royce on the arm -> kuina fully slapping shiro in the face. so funny so good. and all the silly funny bits. and i think i really liked some of the transitions in this play, like the buildup into the revue with shiro's deranged laugh and saying It's over. and having seen it live in person (probably more impactful than in the stream) the lighting+audio transition when mariavera and catalina finally clash swords was So on point and really satisfying to me

Thank you so much for the 回層浮 translation! I have been brainstorming for ~2 hours, and honestly I think "Floating in Circles Through The Depths" is kinda perfect for the Kanji part! The "memories" part is already embedded in the Reminiscence/回想 reading so I think it does not need to be repeated.
I really like the oxymoronic tension between "Floating" and "The Depths" which is also present in the lyrics with both 深層 (the depths) and 浮き輪 (life buoy), as well as 浮かんで 沈んで.
Also I think the choice of "through the depths" and not "in the depths" or "in the deep" is important as the latter two somehow paints just one "THE deep" monolith vs "through" which implies wading through layers.
The only alternative titles I can think of sound too much like "made-up" words, but I hope they can at least help in exploring ideas:
Floating through the Spiraling Depths
Spiraling, Floating through the Depths
Spiraling through the Buoyant Depths
Spiraling through the Depths of Buoyant memories
Spiraling through Deep Buoyant memories
Buoyant Spiraling through the Depths
As if this ask is not long enough, I would like to add:
- A search for "kaisou" in jisho.org also shows 快走 (fast moving/fast sailing) which kinda fits again with 倍速で流れた日々 but I'm not sure how commonly used that word is
- Apparently Penguins and Whale Sharks (Both featured in Tomori Band-aids!) often swim in circles. It is very unlikely, but I wonder if this was a consideration for the 回, especially since circles/circling was also very prominent in the MV https://news.mongabay.com/2021/03/from-penguins-to-sharks-to-whales-swimming-in-circles-is-a-surprisingly-common-trait/

buoyant memories is a really fun way to express the reminiscing i love that
i think 快走 isn't too uncommon! def could be another layer of meaning
and wrt the penguins and whale sharks swimming in circles even if it's not intentional it's a really cool coincidence :o

Regarding Sasurai, one very interpretative/liberal translation could be
"counting [the] grains of [our] sound"
(prioritizing natural phrasing in english but losing a bit of accuracy/fidelity, similar to how YOASOBI songs are translated for english releases)
砂 = grains of sound (~sand); just implied (can't use gikun in english, so just utilize other language features/idioms of english)
寸 = counting [grains]; since the stronger vibe I get from 寸 is a [small] unit of measure rather than the act/process of measuring (e.g. 寸時 = brief moment)
奏 = [our] sound; loosely related since in the MyGO context performance is the expression of their sound
I'm partial to "counting grains of our sound" since it sounds too cold/mechanical without the "our". I also really like your "Sound-counted Performance" as a more faithful translation, and I would argue that the making up of terms is kinda fair game since that's also what MyGO does 😆
Other ideas:
counting the sands of our sound
our sound => performance, play, act music, band (?)
(sorry for the dump, it's just really cool how MyGO (ab)uses the language features if Japanese and how interesting/challenging it is to translate)
omg anon i love u for this don't apologize thank you so much. i really like this idea but i think what's stopping me from adopting it completely is the 奏 meaning live performance and the focus on the current moment and how they can only feel the things they feel performing live in that specific moment, so to turn it into sound kinda loses that.. but aside from that i really like the idea, i agree with the our being necessary!! i think counting the grains of our sound definitely sounds the best... i also like counting the sands of our performance. anyway thank you for ur thoughts i love them

yes, but there aren't lyrics out yet and i don't like to translate lyrics by ear so i'll wait, if there's no full release or mv soon then i guess i'll try to transcribe and tl the game size, but it seems a little pointless to me otherwise

do i have any hope for seeing the last parts of the season of reminiscence readers theater subbed in Eng? Watched what i think it the first part split into two vids on yt (they stopped uploading them after 2 parts), so no hope for that . Just wondering if theres any other places
afaik there are no other subs rn, I intend to sub it eventually but you know... life..... apologies but also thank you for asking cause now I'll try to prioritize it more in terms of subbing projects

Thank you thank you thank you once again for saving us. I was looking forward to this release for a whole ass year and I think it was worth it. Finally got to watch the play in a higher quality and with your subs. IMO I think that so far this is the stage play with the strongest story. Also I absolutely loved Akira literally just being a gag character lmao (Hoshiyuki method go crazy in New York). Again I can't thank you enough for all the work you do for this fandom. We really appreciate it!!
thank you!! i think i agree I've seen some people complain about the pacing and akimichi being gag characters but tbh (and well, i'm too easily satisfied with these things, but) i thought it was perfectly balanced and I rly love how they played with the time and location!! thanks again for watching :)

i think you could also argue for 鳴き声 a little with how she was essentially comparing her voice to a bug with the burrowing under and crawling out 🤔 but yes thank u again for sharing your thoughts!!!!
