hi! i proposed a couple of artists to invite and none seem to have made it. is there a reason for that? do you guys have a preference for style or a minimum following count?

Hi! Thanks for sending us this question.
We did have your opinion in consideration, we'd love to get everyone listed and make everyone happy, but please understand there's multiple factors to take in consideration.
Here goes a list of situations that may have happened:

  • The guest you proposed was busy or uninterested.
First of all, this a free zine that doesn't pay its contributors. Some creatives will be booked, not have time or just won't be up to draw for free and that's more than fair.
Secondly, the theme of our zine is Childe as transmasc man.
That's a very specific headcanon not everyone will be motivated enough to draw for free.
Some artists wished us luck, but declined. They explained us they were unsure if they'd do a good job due to not being educated enough and that would preffer if someone else to take the spot.

  • The guest you proposed is against morally wrong fiction.
We allow all kind of fictional content in our fanzine, which is something not everyone is comfortable with (and that's alright).
We did not contact people who states in their profiles/carrd to be against this mindset, as we would like to respect their boundary and not make them uncomfortable.

  • The guest you proposed has been invited, but not announced yet.
We haven't finished announcing guests. Only 5/11 artists and 1/7 writers have been announced as per today.

  • We priorized inviting a guest artist in trans umbrella over a cis artist.
The theme of the zine is transmasc Tartaglia, so we'd like to give a platform to trans creatives. We have multiple guest artists who are not trans, but whenever we had a tie, we have priorized inviting a trans artist over a cis one. Hope it's understandable.
That said, you don't have to be trans or lgbt to participate and we encourage everyone to join us!

  • There was a strong language barrier between us and the artist.
Our mod team can handle a fairly broad range of languages, but we are not fluent in some asian languages.
We haven't invited artists that only speak a language we have no knowledge of, as the theme and rules of our zine are quite specific and we fear communication could be a problem.

  • There was no way to contact the guest you proposed (DM closed, no mail, etc.)

  • The guest you proposed already applied as artist by themselves, so we invited someone else.

  • The guest you proposed was younger than 21, which goes against our zine rules.
-The guest you proposed draws a ship that we already had covered.

  • The guest you proposed did not see or reply to our message, so we invited someone else.

We don't have a preffered style, in fact, we wanted to invite artists with very different styles and tastes. However, this has proven to be challenging given the conditions listed and we'd like to ask for some comprehension in this deppartment.
We did have following count in consideration when it comes to guests exclusively. It's likely we invited a guest with more followers than an artist who has less if both were suitable.
That's because the purpose of having guests is to spread the zine.
Our goal is first and mainly to make people on trans umbrella happy, but to do that we need to find contributors first. The bigger the reach, the easier we will get to everyone, so yes, following count matters if you're a guest.
That said, we would like to clarify follower count is not a factor when it comes to chosen contributors. You can have 1 follower or 100K, your chances to be accepted in the zine are the same.

Hope this clarified your concerns and thanks for your support!

MOD Riya.
