happy birthday lark, I hope that you have a wonderful day celebrating with your loved ones and good food! I still think fondly of you after all these years; you've taught and inspired me greatly especially with your fics. much love to you always! x
totally random question but do you have any recs for a sturdy work tote bag?
I enjoy random questions about gear!! thank you for asking!
Personally I use a backpack for work rather than a tote bag (dumping the weight of my laptop on one shoulder makes that shoulder very unhappy), so I have not tested the work totes from these brands, but the bags I use all the time are from Dagne Dover and Lo and Sons. Their backpacks have lasted me years and have LOTS of compartments.
Slightly unconventional but more affordable and maybe you can get away with it, depending on how formal your work is: LeSportSac. I find their bags surprisingly solid, roomy, and best of all VERY LIGHT!!! which is important if your work stuff is already heavy. The less patterny designs might be work-appropriate for you.
(Frequently recommended but I have not tried: Madewell.)
what is your favourite hq!! fic that you've written?
Thank you for asking! I thought a LOT about this because, as is the case with most writers, I like each of my fics for a different reason so it's hard to choose just one. But my answer is a cartography of love.
I feel that of all my fics, a cartography of love is the one that has everything for me: themes that hit really close to my heart, character study, exploration of gen relationships, places and people, and good writing. Certainly of all my fics, this is the one that has been the most rewarding and surprising in terms of reader response. I have been blown away by people sharing with me how much this fic has resonated with them specifically, and every glimpse of a reader's life I get through the generosity of their sharing has stuck with me.
In the spirit of the question, I want to resist giving honourable mentions that would just turn into a list of my faves, so: this is The One ♥
Hey Lark, what software application do you use to write and organize your fics and original stories? I think you might have mentioned it a long time ago but I can't remember.
Hello!! So sorry for the late reply, I was away for a bit so didn't get to check my inbox here. Obsidian is my daily driver, here's my thread on it: https://twitter.com/lightveils/status/1579043147874959361
I also use other apps on and off depending on my mood (I like iA Writer). Since all my writing exists in plain text files, it's editable by anything that can open a text file, which is nice.
Hi Lark, I am the reader from China. :) Thank you for your kindness. My computer just froze so I'm not sure whether you have received the reply. I have posted the translated version here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/48944077 The link to your work is provided.
Hello lark! I am an AkaMido fan from China, and I am so in love with your work "your little silhouettes"💕May I translate your work into Chinese and share it using my account with other fans in China? I will admit that this is your work and make it read-only.
Hello! omg thank you so much for your kind note, it always really makes my day to hear from a reader of one of my smaller fics because those are no less dear to my heart than the long ones, but don't get as much love :') yes of course, I just ask for a link back to the original work please, and do send me the link to your work when it is translated so I can add it to the notes of my fic!
hi lark! i'm building a quote bot that tweets quotes i like from books, poems, etc. and i wanted to know if you'd be okay with me putting some quotes from your fics in it. i understand if not. have a good day!
Hello! Thank you so much for checking with me. I’m super flattered you thought of me. I’m totally okay with it, as long as there’s clear attribution! Something like “quote” –themorninglark on ao3, [title of fic] would work 😊 and if you don’t mind dropping me a link to the bot when it’s done I’d love to see it!
hi lark! i’ve been a longtime reader of your work and recently followed you on twitter and have been LIVING for your touken ranbu tweets because that franchise was my life for a good few years. recently i’ve been incredibly overcome with nostalgia for it, too, just by following along with your tweets and it just makes me so happy! forgive me if this isn’t an appropriate question, but are you open for commissions on writing?
++ some of your fics have really touched my life in all sorts of strange and wonderful ways and i would love to read a tkrb one by your hand.
OMG this message made me smile so much, thank you!!! It’s so nice to know that all my Touken Ranbu yelling is a good time for at least one other person out there, because I am having a great time with it :D I’m glad stage play actors dragged me down this rabbit hole haha I honestly never imagined I’d get into TKRB but I am here now and it is a Lot!!!
Thank you so much for asking if I’m open for commissions and for your kind words. I absolutely don’t mind you asking! I don’t take writing comms, but that said, knowing that someone would like to read a TKRB fic if I wrote one does motivate me to think about it. I wasn’t not thinking about it before, but this definitely nudges me along.
I am very moved to know that my fics have touched your life in strange and wonderful ways ♥ it’s the best feeling to hear that. Thank you for telling me! And for reading my work, and being here on my wild ride through TKRB!!
hi lark! being argentinian and on the verge of a big career decision that may involve an international move, i have a lot of Thoughts and Feelings about your oikawa fic that are hard to put into words. i want to do so in a thougthful and wordy comment someday, but for now i just wanted to tell you that Andes (the red one specifically) is one of the most widely loved beers in argentina and my friend and i spent a good amount of time clowning oikawa's taste (and still do whenever we drink one together).+
+thank you for the care you put in researching and writing our country! it felt very authentic warm and homely and i appreciate it a lot. thank you for writing the fic as well. it's very important to me and i'm glad that it exists, for oikawa and for me
ahhhhhh oh my gosh thank you so much. I really can't tell you how much it means to hear from someone who has moved/is moving internationally that my Oikawa fic resonated with them, but it's truly extra meaningful when it comes from an Argentinian reader!
I am so so glad that this fic felt authentic, warm and homely for you. I owe any authenticity entirely to my well stocked local library and a patient friend who answered many of my questions. I am very much not from anywhere near Argentina, so I honestly grappled with a lot of uncertainty about whether I had captured it well, or whether I could even write something like this... but I think ultimately what I felt was that Oikawa wasn't from Argentina either, and my job was not to be slavishly accurate but to capture the wonder and strangeness of a new place, and I think that's something many of us intercontinental nomads have felt :')
also asjhkakj I don't know why I picked on Andes in my fic HAHA but I am delighted that it continues to provide you amusement!! Oikawa is always prime clowning material... I say this with all the love possible.
Thank you for sending me this message. It made my day. I wish you all the very best with your big career decision, no matter what you decide ♥♥♥
hi lark!!!! hope you're having a good day! any new music you've been listening to lately?
Hello! Yes I am so far, and I hope your day is/has been good too!
I've been in an instrumental mood for a while. Yesterday I looped Brian Eno's "Ambient" albums almost the entire day ("Ambient 1: Music for Airports" is one of my fave albums of all time). My favourite and very underappreciated instrumental musician is probably [.que], who just released a new album in Dec 2021, Quiet Before: https://open.spotify.com/album/3zIwaH6vEodcoAMZL5Du2W?si=4VTpyYf9TqORL1Y2vQirzA I really like it!! All of [.que]'s music is lovely and I recommend it as BGM for your writing, your work, your household chores, just chilling with a book... anything really.
